May 2020

From the Desk of the Superintendent...

We have entered a May that looks much different from any other May in history. As I look back at this year's school calendar, our students have not physically attended a school site since Friday, March 13. I appreciate everything our staff, students, parents/guardians, and families are doing to continue learning as the school district creates a reopening plan for August. This has not been an easy process for our teachers, nor our students or families. I am proud of the efforts of everyone in making remote learning possible for our district. While we continue to create action solutions for our current challenges, we will come out strong and more united once this pandemic comes to an end. I believe we have a solid plan that will help our students maintain their academic progress and be ready to transition to their next grade level in the fall of 2020.

If you have followed the news, Commissioner Matt Blomstedt has encouraged school districts to create contingency plans if the COVID-19 pandemic continues into the fall. Raymond Central plans to reopen with students in our buildings, however, we may be given different guidance from the Nebraska Department of Education and Governor Ricketts. We will continue to keep everyone up-to-date as plans develop and communication comes from the state level. Remember, while our building sites are closed (both inside and outside), the learning continues at home. Thanks for your hard work and flexibility during this unprecedented time.

Raymond Central is proud to honor our seniors on Saturday, May 16, 2020 at 2:00 PM. We have partnered with Aspen Video to create a virtual graduation ceremony that will be available for two days (a link and more information with be shared by Mrs. Stansberry). Thanks to the generosity of our Raymond Central Educational Foundation, every senior will receive a DVD copy of the ceremony and a graduate sign for their front yard. While we understand a virtual ceremony is not the same as what is typically held, Saturday, July 18 has been reserved to hold a ceremony in the football stadium. We will not know if this is possible until the CDC and Governor Ricketts lift the current large gathering restrictions.

As we move forward, we will continue to stay diligent following the guidance of our local health experts to do our part in flattening the curve of COVID-19’s spread. We will get through this together!

Stay safe, healthy, and engaged with remote learning!

Do Not Forget!

  • Raymond Central is excited to announce a new partnership with Civic Nebraska and the RC Foundation. Over the course of two years, RC and the RC Foundation researched how to create and implement a before and after school program for our district. At first the idea was to try and create a program on our own, until we met Civic Nebraska. Civic Nebraska has a large footprint in providing before and after school programs in Lincoln and Omaha. Raymond Central will be the first rural model for the organization with the hope to expand into more communities. The program will be an extension of the school day with a focus on academic support, student enrichment, physical activity, and more!
