Important Message

Dear CLA Families,

Welcome back and happy new year. Staffing shortages across the nation and locally have impacted our ability to fill positions at times. Here at Central we are fortunate to have a highly dedicated faculty and staff that has rallied to support each other everyday. Whether it’s manning our front office phones, covering a recess or morning duty or stepping in to cover a classroom vacancy every single person on campus has truly met the challenge. Even so, we anticipate that like every other school district in our area we will likely see a continued strain on vacancies in the next few months, but we can honestly say we are a truly fortunate community to have such a committed group of adults working with our CLA students.

CLA Parents and families have been truly exceptional in carefully balancing when to stay home, when to come to school and communicating with us each day they are absent. We are grateful for your support in allowing your children to clear their absences through our independent study program when they feel well enough to do so. It’s no replacement for daily instruction but it is a fairly easy way to help kids clear absences that are out of their control.

A look at our district’s layered mitigation strategies developed in alignment with guidance, from CDPH, CDE, and SBDPH we know vaccination remains a primary preventative measure and combined with proper masking and physical distancing is the best strategy for fighting this virus. Vaccines are widely available, you can go online, text your ZIP code to 438829 or call 1-800-232-0233 to find a vaccine location near you. Please be sure to talk with your child’s pediatrician if you have questions or need more information about vaccinating your child.

Late last week, we were informed that the County would be supplying free antigen home testing kits for every school district in the County. These test kits will be issued through school sites, at a parent’s request, when a student must quarantine or isolate. You can read more about the new testing options coming soon in Dr. Hammond’s latest update.

Congrats to CLA's Middle School Girls Soccer Team

Congratulations to our lady CLA Tigers for winning this year's Magnet Bowl tournament. Our lady Tigers beat Edison Academy 5-2. For the first time ever, the game was played in our field and the atmosphere was great. Again, congratulations to our CHAMPIONS and congratulations to our soccer coaches Mrs. Foglesong, Mrs. Otero, and Mr. Mahoney for a fantastic season.

Health and Safety Procedures for Sporting Events

Hello OMSD Families! We believe that keeping our students active is an important part of keeping our students healthy. In order for us to have a fun and safe experience we need to follow a few simple guidelines-please visit links below for details.

Students Presenting Symptoms at Home

In an effort to maintain a healthy school environment and to mitigate the spread of the COVID-19 virus, we ask that all parents screen their child for COVID-19 symptoms each morning before they send them to school, and keep them at home if they are sick using our Daily Checklist for Families.

This shared responsibility is critical to our ability to keep everyone safe, healthy and attending in person each day.

Please report your child’s illness with details of all symptoms to our health office at 909-983-8522. Our Health Office will follow up on all students that are at home with COVID-19 symptoms.
