BMMS Weekly Update
November 18, 2018
Arrival at School
As the weather begins to worsen for driving and travel, please be sure to leave the house a bit earlier to arrive at school on time. First period instruction begins at 8:00am. This means it is important for students to arrive at school by 7:50am so they have time to go to their lockers and prepare for the day. We appreciate your cooperation in maximizing instructional time for our students.
Travel Opportunities
BCSD offers trips, which are not connected to specific classes, for HS students. MS students may sign up early for savings benefits.

2-Hour Delay Information
The use of a two-hour delayed school opening may be utilized when the additional two (2) hours would allow for inclement weather to rise to an acceptable level. With the option of the two-hour delay, we will more likely be able to have school and avoid using as many calamity days.
A major part of a two-hour delay school opening involves the transportation of students to schools. Under a two-hour delay schedule, all schools will begin the day two (2) hours later than the regular starting time. The school day will end at the usual time. Students receiving school bus transportation should go to their normal bus stop location two (2) hours later than their regular pick-up time.
As with school closings, the two-hour delay to the start of the school day will be announced through the local media and our telephone message system to parents. If for any reason the two-hour delay is not sufficient to ensure safe travel, the District will close for the entire day. If this is the case, a second call will be made via our telephone messaging service.

Students Traveling to Washington D.C.
Each year thousands of students travel to Washington, D.C and visit Arlington National Cemetery to witness the Changing of the Guard at The Tomb of the Unknown Soldier. For many this event is the highlight of the entire trip. BMMS and BMHS has the distinct honor of nominating six students (4 participants and 2 alternates) travelling to Washington, D.C. to represent our district while laying a wreath on the tomb. The four participating students will earn the unique opportunity of interacting directly with the guards and taking part in the ceremony.
Interested students will be required to complete an essay detailing why they want to participate, what it would mean to them, and any personal interpretations of the patriotism, symbolism, and honor attached to this memorial ceremony. All submissions will be read by Berea City School staff members and the winners will be announced at the Roommate Meeting on Friday, February 15th. Students participating in this essay contest should also be aware that grades, behavior in school, and other factors may be used to determine the winners.
We strongly encourage traveling students to take part in this “absolute once in a lifetime” opportunity and welcome any questions. This year’s trip to Washington, D.C is going to be amazing and this ceremony will be something that will be remembered for the rest of our students’ lives. Essay applications can be found outside Mr.Andrews’ room,165, or on the Google Trip site. Please submit this essay to Mr. Andrews by no later than Friday, December 21st to be considered.
