GO ZEN: A MINDFUL MINUTE
ATTENTIVE ALLIGATOR- Calming exercise for your mind and body
Attentive Alligator
Sit on the floor comfortably, close your eyes.
Script: Adults read the script in a calm, soothing voice. Pause after each area of focus.
Today we are going to visit the zoo and do a mindfulness exercise.
We are going to visit attentive alligator. Attentive means paying close attention your thoughts, feelings, and body. Today we are going to focusing on attention. To prepare, remain in a calm position with your eyes closed. Let’s begin to control our breathing. Let’s inhale (hold for 4 seconds).... and exhale (for 4 seconds).... Inhale.... and exhale.... one more time inhale.... and exhale....
Now as you breathe in, close your eyes and focus your attention on your brain and thoughts of being calm and attentive to the moment. This may be a little hard at first, but keep practicing. Push away all of the other thoughts in your mind so that you can focus only on this exercise. See your thoughts float away like a leaf on a windy day. Take a moment to notice how your body is feeling. Keeping your mind focused on your body. If you notice another thought sneaking in, let it float away.
What do you notice in your body?
What feelings do you notice?
Where is the energy in your body?
Open your eyes and notice how your body is feeling.
Reflect on how did your body feel during this exercise?
