HIGH SCHOOL
PINE TREE READIES FOR SPRING BREAK AND YEAR END ACTIVITIES
It may be hard to believe, but Spring Break is only two weeks away and the end of school is only two and one-half months away. It has been a busy but productive year at Pine Tree High School.
Band competed in solo and ensemble recently and placed nearly twenty students in state competition, while Angelina Pruitt competed for choir in state competition and sang with an all-star choir at the convention. This is the second time she has made state for PTHS and choir instructor Danielle Warren.
Pine Tree High School was well represented at EEXPEDITION 2022 on February 17 as teachers, staff, administrators and coaches were all on hand to show what is going on at the high school. Band, drill team, cheer and others also performed during the event, which lasted two hours and drew a large crowd to Maude Cobb Convention Center.
High School teachers are busy finishing work for the third nine weeks, which will conclude on March 4. Students are frantically finishing work and getting ready for the final push which starts the week before spring break and then eight fast weeks after the break. Testing is getting ready to occur, whether it is STARR, TELPAS, SAT, ACT or any number of other tests that students must complete to be ready to graduate.
Sports are wrapping up for some and just getting started for others. Soccer is halfway through their season, while baseball, softball and track are just getting underway. Powerlifting hosted a fantastic meet this past Thursday with 18 schools in attendance, and will now prepare to host regionals in the next few months. The Pirate lifters are setting the bar very high for their competitors, as Coaches Cody Ellis and Roderick Portley are expecting a large number to qualify for state.
Students have completed course selections for next year, which means counselors will now spend a lot of time getting people slotted for next year. Also, counselors will be assisting seniors ready for graduation which is set for May 26 at 8 p.m.
Yearbooks will be completed just after Spring Break, according to Greg Collins, Yearbook advisor, and will be delivered in early May. The number of books is getting a bit thin, so students, especially seniors, need to come by and buy their book now to make sure they get one at the end of the year.
Pine Tree has had a great year thus far, and more accolades are on the horizon. Gung Ho!
MIDDLE SCHOOL
Pine Tree Middle School teachers elected Mrs. Melina Moore as Teacher of the year for 2022-2023 school year. Mrs. Moore teaches 5th grade math at the middle school.
Mrs. Guerra’s Art students received free kid meal coupons from Bubba’s 33 in Longview. Mrs. Guerra is always finding fun things for her students to create and enjoy.
Many family and friends of Pine Tree ISD attended the Pine Tree EXPEDITION last week, where our 5th and 6th grade choir students performed. Aiden Bullock's little brother was happy to see him on stage (see photo below). Ms. Stephanie Phillips directed the choir. The students worked many months to prepare for this event. Other students demonstrated their robotic skills and explained some of the learning activities to guests throughout the evening.
PARKWAY ELEMENTARY
Art Show
Mrs. Scaggs’s classrooms have finished their last practice round before they submitted their final project for the annual Parkway Coloring Book. This year’s coloring book will feature monsters from all grade levels.
On March 4th during campus special time, students will vote on who will be selected to be in the 2022 Parkway Coloring Book. The books will be sold for $5 each at the end of the year art show on May 20, 2022. Pre-orders will begin in March. Proceeds will benefit the clay program at Parkway Elementary.
Character Street
Our talented second graders had such a wonderful performance on February 8th. They performed a segment called Character Street. The students taught the audience how to be kind, respectful, caring, and other amazing traits. The songs were amazing, catchy and fun!
This year Parkway students completed a community service act project for the residents of Pine Tree Lodge Nursing Center. The second grade students wrote heartfelt letters to each of the residents. Way to be so caring and loving showing the Pack Way!
JUNIOR HIGH
PTJH showed up and showed out at EXPEDITION 2022! We are extremely proud of how well our students and staff represented our campus and brought attention to all of the great things going on at PTJH each and every day.
Members of the Choir presented a wonderful performance. English and Language Arts students shared original poetry through spoken word. Robotics, STEM. Careen and Technical Education gave our younger students a chance to control programmable robots.
Math, ELAR, History, and Science departments presented engaging content they are covering in class. TAME, Theatre, and Art offered creative and interactive displays. It was an awesome chance to connect with many members of the Pine Tree Family!
In extracurricular news, the PTJH and PTMS Math Science Team competed in Ore City last Saturday with the team capturing first place. The team has won every East Texas competition since 2018!
Our Pirates and Lady Pirates are working hard on the track and field as they prepare to travel to Hallsville this Thursday for their first meet of the season. #PTJHRocks
