Ruby Bridges Elementary- Where the STARS come to shine!

Distance Learning Opportunities Continue

Dear Ruby Families,

I hope everyone is staying safe and healthy during this unprecedented time. I miss you all dearly!I am writing to say hello and hope that are you doing your best as we are all sheltered in place. I also understand that this transition has been brisk and that you may have ongoing questions related to distance learning and the resuming of school.

As it stands today, and shared previously, we will not return to traditional school for the remainder of this school year. Students will continue to access distance learning opportunities through the google classroom, online platforms, and through daily check-ins with their teachers. To clarify the distance learning opportunities, here are the guiding principles that Ruby educators are operating under:

We ARE- Providing Learning opportunities, We ARE NOT- Providing assignments/ classwork

We ARE- Providing Feedback, We ARE NOT- Grading or giving point values

We ARE- Giving Exposure to new materials and understanding, We ARE NOT pushing for mastery of this material

We ARE- Celebrating completed opportunities, We ARE NOT having consequences for not completing work

We ARE- Trying to give opportunities that our students can complete independently, We ARE NOT giving opportunities that require classroom and teacher support for completion

We ARE- Providing students a few hours of learning opportunities, We ARE NOT providing the full school schedule

We ARE- Reviewing standards taught prior to the school closure and exposing some new material, We ARE NOT sticking to the pacing plans and expecting mastery of new material.

We ARE- Referring to everything as an opportunity, We ARE NOT referring to anything as required or optional.

As for the resuming of school, there is no set date or details about this as of yet. I will share details as they are forthcoming. In the interim, know that we are in discussion about end of year rituals in addition to retrieval of student belongings.

I hope this provides some clarity on our thought process as we continue to try to support our families through this unprecedented and trying time. I truly miss our Ruby Stars and can’t wait for the day I see our Star’s faces (in person) again.

Stay Safe and email me with any questions-

If you would take a few moments to share your thoughts about your child's teacher(s) (or even better, have your child help you write it!), we will pass along your words, drawings, pictures and/or videos on to them. If you want to recognize more than one teacher, just submit another response' once you finish. Please send in your responses no later than next Tuesday (May 5th), so they can be delivered to teachers in the second part of the week...thanks!
