Parent/Child Book Club
Our first parent child book night was held Thursday, January 15th in the middle school LRC from 6 to 8 pm. We had 4 groups participate in the library and 2 groups who weren't able to make it to the library that night are holding their own parent/child club at home. Mrs. Steinmetz would like to thank those that were able to participate. It was a lot of fun! Please stay tuned for more information about upcoming book clubs.
The books that were selected for the parent/child book clubs were:
- Big Nate Strikes Again by Lincoln Pierce
- The Maze Runner by James Dashner
- War Games by Audrey Couloumbus
- The Running Dream by Wendelin Van Draanen
- Thirteen Reasons Why by Jay Asher
Let Mrs. Steinmetz know if you would like a list of titles with multiple copies if you are interested in holding your own book club.

Rebecca Caudill Young Readers' Book Award
Students were given a list of 20 books that have been nominated for the RCYRBA 2015 at the beginning of the year. In February, we will be voting for our favorite of those 20 books, which will then be sent to the Illinois School Library Media Association (ISLMA). In order to be eligible to vote for their favorite book, students will have read at least 3 of those titles listed at the time of voting, which will be at the end of February. We even have some students that have read all 20 titles!! Mrs. Steinmetz will then send the total votes for each title to ISLMA, who will then tally votes from school across Illinois and announce the winning title in March!
In order to vote, students need to have read at least 3 of the following titles before the end of February and reported to Mrs. Steinmetz which books they have completed.
Here is the list:
- The One and Only Ivan by Katherine Applegate
- Saving Zasha by Randi Barrow
- Almost Home by Joan Bauer
