Classroom Spotlight... Mr. Adkins Fifth Grade!
Written by: Kyle Beutel
I had so much fun on my fifth grade field trip to Fairview Lake. What I am about to tell you was my personal favorite part of our exciting field trip. It all began with a circle of my friends and I, sitting around our tour guide. She asked us question about survival. For example, “How long can someone survive without oxygen?” The answer was three minutes. This important information brought us to our next assignment, which was to build a survival shelter. Each group was given 30 minutes to build their shelter, using any elements from nature that we found on the ground. Our group used the trunk of a fallen tree as the support of our habitat. We began to lean other large branches up on the fallen tree from both sides to create walls. Then we filled the inside floor with leaves to make a soft bedding. We also added leaves to the outside of the shelter to keep warm. We won second place and learned a lot from this activity.
Health Office - Mrs. Bolton
The Morning Phone Call to Report Your Child Absent From School
“It is extremely important to call the school between 7:00 and 9:30 A.M. on the first day of any illness (201 664-9000, extension 1). Absentee notes should be brought in the day the child returns to school.” If your child develops a communicable disease (i.e.: Strep, Conjunctivitis, Fifth’s Disease, Chickenpox’s, Head Lice and the like) please notify the school as soon as possible. A physician’s note is required for all contagious diagnoses which necessitated medical intervention.
It is essential that parents reporting an absence state the child’s name, teacher, grade, and the diagnosis. This is important information for the New Jersey Department of Health Influenza Like Illness Reports submitted weekly. It is also helpful when you, the parent, stop into the Health Office and ask me: “Is anything going around?”
