SPREAD THE WORD INCLUSION DAY-MARCH 31

WHAT

Spread the Word Inclusion is continuing our success through an ongoing effort by Special Olympics, Best Buddies and our supporters to inspire respect and acceptance by advocating for inclusive words and actions so that we can end discrimination of individuals with intellectual disabilities.

WHEN

The annual day of awareness will be held March 31st.

WHY

Respectful and inclusive words and actions are essential to the movement for the dignity and humanity of people with intellectual disabilities.

At Werner Elementary we want to help our students understand ways that they can include their peers and help them feel welcome. We are bringing this to their attention so we can continue to have a welcoming environment that Werner is.

HOW

Our students with disabilities will be sharing a video with Werner students showing them different ways to be inclusive and what inclusion is. There will also be an inclusion banner set up outside of lunch for our students to sign and Pledge to join the inclusion movement. We encourage you to go to the following link: https://willpromo.com/soco_ucs/shop/home to purchase a shirt for your student to wear on March 31st.

ATTENDANCE REMINDERS

When your student will be absent due to illness, an appointment and/or trip, please contact the attendance line at 970-488-5551. You may also use the attendance feature on the ParentVUE app.

While letting the classroom teacher know about an upcoming absence is helpful, the front office also needs to be alerted when your student will be absent during the school day.

WERNER READING CHALLENGE

In honor of National Reading Month, we encourage students to read every day and join in our Werner Reading Challenge. The goal is to read as many minutes as possible over the month of March.

  • Each day, students will write the name of the book and the number of minutes read on the Student Reading Log. Being read to will also count in the challenge!
  • For any student that turns in a Student Reading Log at the end of March, they will receive prize (any number of minutes).
  • For students that read at least 300 minutes for the month, they will receive a token for the book machine.
  • If our whole school reads over 100,000 minutes, we will have a special prize for the whole school!

After March 31, students will turn in their Student Reading Log to their teacher. Have fun reading Wildcats!

Also, students will receive one of the paw bookmarks (see picture) from their teacher in the coming week as part of the celebration of reading.

NEWS FROM PSD

Effective immediately: Masks no longer required on buses

March 3, 2022

Hello PSD parent/guardian of a student who receives busing,

As you may be aware, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) is no longer requiring people to wear masks on buses or vans operated by public or private school programs. This change goes into effect for all PSD transportation immediately.

The CDC made this change to align with updated guidance that no longer recommends universal indoor mask wearing in K-12 and early education settings in areas with a low or medium COVID-19 community level. The Larimer County Department of Health and Environment announced on March 1 that Larimer County is currently at the low-risk level.

PSD remains a mask-friendly district, and drivers and students will be supported if they choose to wear a mask.

As a reminder, please do not send your student to the bus stop or school if they are experiencing illness symptoms. Please follow Return to Learn guidance to know when they may go back.

We appreciate your continued flexibility as we adjust to ever-changing conditions in our community. Those with questions may reach us at transportation@psdschools.org.

We are thankful for the opportunity to bus your child to school safely.

Sincerely,

Poudre School District Transportation Department
