Genius Hour
Genius hour allows students the opportunity to explore their own passions and encourages creativity. It provides students a choice in what they want to learn. Students can choose one of the four pathways to express their passions.
Students can…
Create: Invent or create something new!
Change: Start a movement and make a difference in the world!
Expert: Share your knowledge about something you are great at with the rest of the world!
Inquiry: Research an interesting topic and learn more about it!
The link below is a short clip explaining Genius Hour…

MEALS DISTRIBUTION
Immediately upon facing building closures due to the spread of the coronavirus, NKC Schools implemented a comprehensive plan for families to access food. Planning for any possible scenario, multiple distribution phases were outlined to continue providing this much-needed resource. As more school districts report incidents of food distribution workers contracting COVID-19, NKC Schools collaborated with the Clay County Health Department to determine the right time to shift to Phase 2 of our plan. The decision has been made that on Monday, April 13, district buses will no longer be used to deliver meals to stops throughout our community. Food distribution will now be increased from four to 12 school sites located throughout our attendance area. Local health officials advise this change in our service model will help slow the spread of the coronavirus. NKC Schools remains steadfast in our resolve to provide food to those in need.
The following sites are designated as “grab-n-go” food pick up locations every Monday through Friday between 10 a.m.–1 p.m. This is an extension of the previous timeframe. No changes will be made to food distribution for families with unique needs and extenuating circumstances. Should you have need for such an accommodation, please contact your school’s School Community Resource Specialist. Limited delivery efforts will continue in high need areas, as well.

Technology Support During E-Learning
As students engage in e-Learning experiences while our school buildings are closed, we know additional support may be needed. The NKC Schools Help Desk supports student learning year-round, and will continue to do so during this period. Staff members will be available to answer questions and provide assistance remotely to all staff and students via email at helpdesk@nkcschools.org, web chat, or phone at 816-321-HELP. Parents who may need assistance are welcome to use the chat or phone number as well. The email support is only for valid district email addresses.
The NKC Schools Technology department will also offer device support in person at the same times and locations as meal pick up services at the feeder pattern high schools. This will provide an opportunity for families to get assistance with student devices, including iPads and Macs. This will also be the location where you will drop-off or pick up devices for repair. Simply drive up at the front entrance of your feeder pattern high school between 10:00 AM - 1:00 PM. and let a staff member know that you are looking for assistance with technology.
