Mrs. Miller's Counseling News
Twin Oaks Elementary - UPDATED 1/16/2023
Martin Luther King, Jr. Day
Twin Oaks Families:
Growing up in the 1960s, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. was much more than just an iconic civil rights leader; to me and many others he was a living, breathing, real life super hero. I remember seeing him on the news, hearing his prophetic speeches and knowing at a very young age that this man was incredibly special - someone who only comes along once in a lifetime. When he was tragically killed on April 4th, 1968, I was 8 1/2 years old. The entire world mourned his death. To this day, in my opinion, no other leader has even come close to measuring up to Dr. King. If he had been able to live a long, full, life, I can't even begin to imagine how much better our world would be today.
What's happening this week at School:
This week I will be continuing to teach lessons from our new Sources of Strength curriculum: Please see the Sources of Strength Wheel, and the wheel definitions, in the photos below. Research shows that our sources of strength act as protective factors in our lives. They are the people, places, activities and things that bring us joy, help us feel connected and give us strength. I'm very excited to be sharing these excellent lessons with Twin Oaks students.
Twin Oaks Family Events Calendar:
We have several fun family events planned, beginning with a "Heart Crafts" Family Night on Wednesday, February 8th from 6:00-7:30pm. See the ad below for more family and community opportunities to come! Details about each event will be shared as the time approaches.
Featured in this newsletter issue: Weekly Message, 2023 Twin Oaks Family Events, Classroom Counseling Lesson Schedule, School Event Announcements, Problem-solving/Time Machine examples, Parenting and Community Resources, Short Videos to Inspire You and Bring you Joy :-)
