A message from Dr. Rhoda Mhiripiri-Reed about Grading and Assessment Practices for Distance Learning
Dear Families:
With the governor’s order to extend Distance Learning through the end of the year, I want to provide information about how we will move forward with grading. Please know that our practices will look different from when we are able to provide in-person school.
During Distance Learning, our primary goal is to provide high-quality education for E-12 students. We always believe in a relationship-based approach to learning, and this is especially important during a pandemic. This is a complicated time; our students have a spectrum of needs. It is critical that our assessment practices are created with flexibility in mind.
Principals and teachers worked with our Innovation, Design and Learning Team to collect input from parents / caregivers, students and teachers to inform our plan for assessment and grading. We considered the unique experiences that our families and students may be facing. These challenges include:
Student access to technology and caregiver academic support.
Student and caregiver stress due to illness, economic impacts, or food or housing insecurity.
Student ability to adapt to a new mode of educational delivery.
Student social-emotional stress due to isolation from teacher(s), staff, and peers.
During Distance Learning, all formal grading will be suspended for the remainder of the school year. At the end of the school year, teachers will share progress and suggestions for summer learning. Information about student progress will be shared with instructors in the next grade level to provide instructional guidance for the 2020-21 school year.
In our Electronic Backpack, you will find a quick guide to our district-wide approach to grading during Distance Learning. If you have any questions, don’t hesitate to contact your child’s teacher, school counselor, or me.
Please allow yourself grace as you continue to navigate Distance Learning with your child. Remember to reach out if you need help. We are here for you!
Sincerely,
Dr. Mhiripiri-Reed

For the first $5,000 contributed this weekend, #Hopkins Strong Relief Fund will receive a generous match of $5,000! Lifetouch
Due to multiple variables, we unfortunately will not be receiving classroom composites this year from Lifetouch. One reason is due to them closing their Maple Grove facility due to COVID-19. If you paid for these as part of the fall picture package, they will provide a $10.00 refund. To get this, call the phone number below.
