Read to Succeed

Believe it or not by the end of this month you will be halfway done with Read to Succeed (R2S). On behalf of Mr. Lentz and the entire R2S Leadership Team I want to say thank you for all your hard work, your positive attitudes, and your thoughtful responses. Hang in there, we are halfway done.

November's schedule is outlined below. Although we have a double dose of readings, responses, and journals, December is Read to Succeed free to allow you to close out the semester without the added stress of assignments. If that's not an early present from Santa, I don't know what is.

Week 1 Professional Readings (10/31-11/4)

Week 2 Off

Week 3 Google Responses Due (11/18)

Week 3 Department Meeting Reflection (Wednesday 11/16)

Week 4 PSG (Wednesday 11/30)

Week 4 Classroom Connection Journals (Wednesday 11/30)

Food for Thought

What's Next For SLOs?

This week will wrap up the SLO preliminary period. By Friday of this week all SLOs should be successfully submitted and approved by an administrator. Next, we will turn our attention to midpoint conferences. Administrators will be reaching out to you in the coming week about setting up midpoint conferences during your planning period. This conference is an opportunity for you to discuss the growth goals you established for your students, what the data says about how they are progressing, and how you have tailored your instruction to promote growth.

Unlike in previous years, you will be given a rating by your administrator at the mid-point conference based off of how well your SLO reflects your knowledge of students and data analysis. Scores are reflected by as follows:

  • 4=Exceeds
  • 3=Meets
  • 2=Partially Meets
  • 1=Does Not meet

Criteria for knowledge of students and data dnalysis are listed below:

Knowledge of Students

  • Identifies general demographic information (class size, age ranges, ethnicity, transfer status, etc…) of students involved in the SLO
  • Describes the learning needs of students included in the SLO
  • Describes the required academic supports that students with exceptionalities (learning disabilities, 504, ELL, gifted and talented) must be provided with in order to access the core curriculum

Data Analysis

  • Develops questions about student needs based on SLO data
  • Uses data to answer self-generated questions about student needs
  • Analyzes data to find significant comparisons and differences within groups of students
  • Indicates clear instructional needs based on assessment data
