I will try to make dates available for 2 months. If there are any changes, I will update them as well.
This past week we discussed our morning routines and writing about them. We learned the importance of transitional words such as first, next, then, and last in our writing.
This week, we are learning how to use prewriting to record ideas that we can then put in order and help us to create better stories.
Last week we learned to sequence a story as we retell it. We took the classic story of The Three Little Pigs and placed the events of the story in order to retell it in order. We used transitional words such as first, next, then, and last as we retold our events.
This week, we are discussing problem and solution within a story. We will be using Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs and other stories to demonstrate finding the problem and solution.
As we practice each of our routines, I will also be pulling students for beginning of year testing. Once I have finished testing all of our students, we will be able to set up our small groups!
This a long unit that will continue for a few weeks.
Last week we learned to compare whole numbers and continued to work on proper number formation.
This week we are beginning our unit on addition and subtraction. We are not just memorizing facts, but learning the actual concept and how to determine when to add or subtract. This unit will last several weeks.
This week, we are studying the national symbols. We will be discussing the Pledge of Allegiance, the Star-Spangled Banner, the U.S. Flag, the Liberty Bell, and the Statue of Liberty.
