Re: Immunization requirements for incoming 7th grade
Texas students entering 7th grade are required to have two additional immunizations prior to the first day of school.
The following immunizations are required for all incoming 7th grade students:
1. Tdap - Tetanus-diphtheria-pertussis vaccination
One dose is required instead of the 10-year booster. If your child has had a tetanus-containing
Vaccine in the past five years, the Tdap will not be required until after five years have passed.
2. Meningococcal (MCV4)
One dose is required to protect from meningococcal meningitis.
If your student already had these vaccinations email the clinic copy to me so I can update your child's records. Taking care of these immunization requirements now will help facilitate a smooth transition to Jr. High.

The Latest From the Library📚❤️
Kids this age LOVE graphic novels! I personally love graphic novels. I know that if my libraries had these types of books available when I was in school, it would have completely changed my negative view of reading. (Yes, I am the librarian and no, I did not like reading when I was in school. Go figure!)
Manga is rapidly becoming a favorite among graphic novel readers. What parents need to know is that Manga comes to us from Japan and, in Japan, 80% of their writing is in manga form; from very young children all the way to adult manga. There is adult manga out there that is labeled appropriate for 16+ (on Amazon, for instance) that I would never want my 16 year old reading and is, quite frankly, a form of pornography.
If your child wants you to purchase manga for them, please add about 5 years to the age rating, watch out for anything not rated and absolutely do not judge the books by the covers or summaries.
We all want our kids to be interested in reading, but it is important that WHAT they are reading coincides with each families' values.
If you have any questions regarding this, feel free to call me at 832-592-8915.

FREE Audio and eBooks available to all Conroe ISD Students
Dear Parent/Guardian,
Conroe ISD is committed to bringing unique learning opportunities to our students and we are pleased to introduce a new, free reading service providing digital books through Sora, the student reading app.
Why Sora? The collection of titles in Sora is an extension of Wilkerson’s physical library, only it’s in an app with 24/7 access to ebooks and audiobooks. It’s convenient for students to check out titles at home, on the weekends or during school breaks with no worry about misplacing a book or running up late fees – these digital titles automatically return at the end of the lending period!
Sora can help students of all ages read more and improve comprehension. Struggling or reluctant readers, learning-challenged, second language learners, and gifted readers can all benefit from this service.
· Enrich vocabulary and improve comprehension and pronunciation
· Introduce students to books above their reading level
· Teach critical listening
· Help busy kids find time to read
· Incentivize reading with fun avatars and achievements
· Allow easy access to Montgomery County Public Library collection, too! (in the Sora menu select: +Add a public library) .
You must have a public library account to do this. How does it work? Download the free Sora app from the Apple App story, Google Play Store or visit soraapp.com, borrow with Conroe ISD SSO login and enjoy anytime, anywhere on a computer, tablet, or smartphone.
Whether a student’s interest lies in classics for required reading, or the latest popular juvenile or young adult fiction, they can find it all in Sora!
Where can I find more information? Students were introduced to Sora before the Winter break during their library time. If you need more information, please contact me in the library at 832-592-8915 or mwetzig@conroeisd.net.
Sincerely,
Monica Wetzig Wilkerson Librarian

FUTURE KNOX PARENTS 2021-2022 WE NEED YOU!!
