Sussex Star Bursts!
Principal's Corner
As we've learned from this health crisis, the health and safety of our community is our collective responsibility. While COVID numbers decline across Morris County and across the State, and a vaccine not yet available for students age 5-11, all schools must continue operating under Governor Murphy's Executive Order 253. Following the Governor's order, Morris School District will require all volunteers with direct student contact in the school building to be vaccinated.
We continue to rely on your cooperation and partnership to keep our students safe. Below is essential information to assist towards this goal:
- Please continue to conduct the required Daily Student Screening and alert the school nurse immediately if your child exhibits symptoms listed or if you answer YES to any screening questions.
- If you or someone in your household is sick, please do not send your children to school. Contact the school nurse (laura.mojena@msdk12.net.) if you are unsure whether to send your child to school.
- If any household member is scheduled to take a COVID test or is awaiting COVID test results, be sure to get in touch with Nurse Mojena immediately for further instructions.
- When a COVID case arises, you will receive a phone call only if your child must quarantine due to exposure. If quarantine is not required, I will communicate via a letter regarding COVID cases in the classroom or the bus. If your student is not affected, an additional letter will be sent to the entire community notifying you of the reported case.
- If students are eligible for virtual instruction, our teachers can prepare for virtual instruction in two days. Students have access to google classroom from home at any time, and assignments will be available while awaiting instruction begin. Thank you for supporting teachers who are teaching in person and virtually at the same time.
Please know that I am here to help and support you in any way that I can. Feel free to reach out to me directly at lorri.vaccaro@msdk12.net
Be well,
Lorri Vaccaro, Principal

Student council is starting!!
Student Council is an organization of students who work towards improving their school and community.
Student Council is made up of two representatives from each 3rd, 4th, and 5th-grade classroom. The Student Council will meet once or twice a month during the school day to coordinate school and community projects.
Interested students will complete an application in class and create a short speech (30-45 seconds) for their class. The class will participate in the voting process to select their classmates to represent them. Ballots will be counted on November 9, 2021. Our first student council meeting will be on Friday, November 12, 2021.
We are looking forward to a fun and productive year. At our first meeting, we will be discussing the goals of the Student Council and the many opportunities that students will have in helping improve our school and community.
Donations Needed
As you prepare for the upcoming Holiday Season, we would also accept children's books for our teacher's classroom libraries. Our teachers are looking for gently used/new beginning readers/easy reader books. Please send them to the office, and we will distribute them to teachers in need.
We appreciate your support.
Shout Outs
Each week, students, teachers, and faculty have the opportunity to recognize one another. Our shout-outs have highlighted random acts of kindness, gratitude, and community building.
Every Friday, during morning announcements, "we shout them, shout them out loud," out over the loudspeaker. We want to hear from you, our parent community. Have a shout-out? Complete this form Community Shout Outs, and we will include it during our Friday morning announcements.
