Testable Question
How does the type of circuit affect the strand of Christmas lights with a burned out bulb?
IV and DV (Test 1)
In test 1 the IV is the parallel circuit and the DV is light.
IV and DV (Test 2)
In test 2 the IV is the series circuit and the DV is light.
Hypothesis 1
If the Christmas lights are arranged in a parallel circuit then when one bulb bursts (is removed) the other bulbs do light up.
Observations
I noticed that all bulbs lit up brightly when no bulbs were burned out.
Observations
I noticed that when one bulb was burned out the others still ran, but they were dim.
Hypothesis 2
If the Christmas lights are arranged in a series circuit then when one bulb bursts (is removed) the other bulbs do not light up.
Observations
I noticed that all bulbs lit up dimly when no bulbs were burned out.
Observations
I noticed that no bulbs lit up when one bulb was burned out.
Conclusion
A parallel circuit is the best series to use for Christmas lights because it stays lit and is brighter.
