We are working on Expressions and Equations skills. Students are working at their own pace at this time. I've listed four STEPS in Google Classroom so far which students need to work through. I will be adding more steps as we go through the unit. Before moving on to the next step students check in with me so I can see if they are ready to move ahead. Some of the individualized work involves watching a video lesson. Students need earbuds to be able to complete this step. If your student does not have earbuds in their backpack please make sure they get a pair.
Students were given a packet to use for this unit. Most supplies are staying in the classroom at this time, but your student may need to take their packet home to work if they are not making enough progress during class. If a student is moving slowly through the steps and could use more help, I strongly recommend they stay after school for Academic Lab. There are great volunteers who can work with them either one-on-one or in small groups.
The work we are doing now is meant to strengthen our foundational skills. Without these important skills, students may struggle throughout the year. Please encourage your student to work hard to master these skills and to reach out when they need help. We want everyone to have a great year!
Geometry, Algebra, and 8th grade Math - Mr. Cerutti
Algebra students have been learning to write and solve equations, including word problems and literal equations thus far. They have also learned about equations that have no solution or many solutions. Next week we will get into doing the same with inequalities prior to testing over the topic some time in mid-September.
Cerutti's 8th grade Math students have begun learning how to analyze and solve linear equations with variables on one side of the equation, variables on both sides of the equation, and what it looks like when there are multiple steps as opposed to just 2-3 steps in an equation. Next week, they will learn what it looks like when there are no solutions or many solutions to a problem prior to quizzing over the first half of the topic.
Social Studies - Mrs. Marshall
Science - Mrs. Gunther
8th grade ELA - Mrs. Henderson
This week, the students solved a murder mystery and presented their suspect to the jury (their classmates) using evidence they found in the "police report."
Today, we have started listening to a 6 episode podcast called Lethal Lit. As we listen, we are gathering clues to see if we can figure out who is responsible for the crime before the end of the series.
Students visited the library Thursday to check out a mystery book for their monthly genre project. They will receive the case file project and rubric on Monday.
Have a great weekend!
