25th Anniversary Celebration & "Shining for 25 Years" Sun Shade Project
Good afternoon, StingRAE Families.
We are gearing up for our 25th Anniversary celebration. We hope you will join us on Tuesday, March 28, 2023 from 5:30-7:00PM on the basketball court for some RAE fellowship and fun!
Our community has been "Shining for 25 Years" and we are excited to celebrate with the incredible people who have built our traditions of excellence and love.
You can support our "Shining for 25 Years" Sun Shade Project by donating. For every $25 you donate, you will receive a special edition t-shirt shown below. All proceeds will go toward our sun shade project.
If you know you are interested in donating and want to ensure we have your t-shirt size at the event, please communicate your interest via the link below.
Thank you for your continuous support of our gRAEt school! We are grateful!
Sincerely,
Charmaine Hobin
PurposeFull People Character Trait for March- Perseverance
This month is all about Perseverance. One way to think about Perseverance is “pushing yourself through challenges and obstacles.” We all experience challenges in our lives. We all have moments when we feel like we can’t do it or that we want to give up on a big task. It is important to develop tools that help us work through those challenges in order to grow in those moments instead of giving up.
**Don’t forget to wear Mint on Tuesday, March 7**
Has your child lost their favorite cold weather item? Do they tell you they can’t find the winter coat that you know you purchased for them, maybe even more than once, just a few weeks ago? We may have found it! Check out our StingRAE Lost and Found and see if you can spot anything that you’re missing!
We have quite a few jackets, water bottles, and lunch boxes in the lost and found at this time. We found a few with names, but most were not labeled. If you are visiting your child for lunch please make sure you check the lost and found for any missing items. Parents can come and visit the lost and found on 3/7, 3/9, and 3/10 even if it is not during your child’s assigned lunch time. If your child is missing an item please ask them to check the lost and found. Due to space constraints, all coats will be donated and water bottles disposed of on March 10, 2023. Please be sure to collect your items by the end of day on March 10, 2023.
Please remember to label your child’s water bottle, lunch box, and jackets/coats. We are often able to return them to your child’s classroom if they are labeled with a first name, last name, or both.
H-E-B Earth Day Competition
StingRAEs the month of April is coming up soon, Earth Day is on April 22nd and we have entered a Recyling challenge with HEB, please join us by bringing in any retail shopping bags, produce bags, bread bags, dry cleaning bags, and newspaper bags. We will place house boxes outside the library, so you can drop off your plastic bags in your house box. We will collect them from March 6th - April 14th . We are also competing with other Katy ISD schools, so lets show everyone that StingRAEs do care about our earth by being the school who brings in the most bags.

2021-2022 Federal and School Report Card Distribution
Katy ISD is sharing information about the state, district, and your child’s campus as part of our obligations under the federal Every Student Succeeds Act of 2015 (ESSA). Two report cards (Federal and School) are available for your review in the front office of our school or online at:
The 2021-22 Federal Report Cards can be accessed online at: https://rptsvr1.tea.texas.gov/perfreport/frc/frc_srch.html?year=2022

TELPAS TESTING
TELPAS (Texas English Language Proficiency Assessment System) is an assessment program in Texas public schools who are learning the English language. Texas annually assesses the English language proficiency of K-12 students who have been identified as English learners (ELs) in four language domains- listening, speaking, reading, and writing. TELPAS evaluates the progress that each EL makes in becoming proficient in the use of academic English.
Who takes TELPAS?
Students in grades K-12 that have been identified as an EL are required to take TELPAS. This includes ELs whose parents have denied services. Once a student has met the state’s reclassification criteria, they will no longer be identified as an EL and will not be required to participate in TELPAS. A student is not eligible to exit until third grade in Katy ISD.
How are the TELPAS language domains assessed?
In grades K-1, TELPAS includes holistically-rated listening, speaking, reading, and writing scores based on classroom observations and student interactions. Teachers use specific language proficiency guidelines to determine whether your child is at the beginner, intermediate, advanced, or advanced high stage of learning English. In grades 2-12, TELPAS will be administered online.
When will students be assessed for TELPAS?
Students in grades 2-5 will take a Listening/Speaking test online, and a Reading/Writing test online beginning the week of February 21-March 20.
Parent Tips
-Practice released tests online at www.TexasAssessment.gov (see flow chart to access released tests online).
-Create an environment rich in literature: have a lot of books, magazines, and newspapers about a variety of topics available.
-Read together or independently: Make time to read together and then talk or write about what you have read. Choose different types of books like chapter books, novels, or non-fiction. Talk about punctuation and how punctuation adds meaning.
-Make lists or write the steps for a process, letters, notes, invitations or emails.
-Write daily: in a diary, words to a favorite song, or story.
-Tell stories and talk daily: share stories or memories. Give them the opportunity to practice and develop listening skills. This will help them learn new vocabulary and find connections to their life. Have conversations about school, news, goals, family, etc. Ask them questions and let them ask you questions also.
Parents are the only person who have the right to access their child; therefore, it is important that parents designate other persons to whom they wish to grant lunch privileges. For safety purposes, Katy ISD guidelines limit lunchroom visitors at the elementary level to parents/step-parents/guardians, non-school – aged siblings and grandparents (accompanied by a parent or with written permission from a parent), or campus mentors. Visitors will be limited to a 30-minute lunch. Due to space limitations at the elementary level, no exceptions to the list of approved visitors can be made. Lunch visitors do not include aunts, uncles, friends, or neighbors. In addition, lunch visitors are limited to two (2) guests per student per day except on days designated by the campus. Unusual circumstances may be approved/addressed by the principal. Parents are asked to use the form below to designate the family member(s) who have written permission to have lunch (unaccompanied by a parent) with the above-named student for the entire school year.
· All visitors must be Raptored into our system with their Driver's License. Please allow extra time to be raptored. You will not be granted access without proper identification.
· Please no photos are to be taken.
· Please no sharing food with other students.
· Due to space limitations, strollers are not permitted.
Please Note: Please do not plan to have lunch with your child on any Monday or Wednesday for the months of February and March.
In addition, the following days are No Lunch Visitor days due to other events/activities happening on campus that require front office support.

Please complete this form to report your student's FULL DAY ABSENCE (for CURRENT DAY ONLY). FULL DAY Absences must be reported daily before 2:30pm.
Reporting an Absence for your child is important.
The preferred, simplest, accurate and most prompt method is Online reporting.
For multiple continuous days and doctor notes, please email RAEstudentattendance@katyisd.org stating the reason for the absence, legal first and last name, teacher, and grade. If an absence does not meet the criteria for an excused absence as specified in KISD Board policy, the absence will be considered unexcused. All notes from a healthcare provider MUST be turned into the attendance office within (5) days upon student's return to school.
Injuries
We hate to see our StingRAEs injured, but we know it happens sometimes. If your student has an injury such as a broken bone (fracture) or sprain and cannot participate in physical activities, our coaches and nurse need documentation. If it is a mild injury that you are monitoring at home, your child may sit out of PE for up to 10 days with a parent note. If it is a more serious injury, we will need a letter from your student's doctor. It is KISD policy that your child can not return to physical activities until we have received an updated letter from the doctor stating that your child is cleared to return to physical activities.
Please know that if your child cannot participate in PE, they must also sit out during recess. They may walk or do other very low impact activities such as a boardgame or sidewalk chalk during recess.
We want your students to participate as much as possible. Please keep us updated on their injuries and provide updated doctor's notes so that they may return to all the fun as soon as it is safe to do so.
Thank you for your help and cooperation,
Coach Leppert, Coach Barrera, and Nurse Amanda

Katy ISD is excited to announce the implementation of the District’s Raptor Volunteer Initiative for the upcoming school year. Beginning October 1, the district will require all volunteers serving on campus during the instructional day to register with the district through its Raptor security system. Raptor ensures quick and easy volunteer registration allowing individual volunteers to create and manage a personal volunteer profile.
In addition, the Raptor Volunteer Initiative will:
• Provide an additional layer of protection for Katy ISD students, staff, volunteers, and campus visitors
• Unite all district volunteers into one Katy ISD volunteer community
• Measure and communicate the positive impact of Katy ISD volunteer organizations Once registered and approved, individual volunteers can:
• Submit and track hours via their volunteer profile for every Katy ISD campus at which they volunteer
• The system also provides quick and easy submission of individual off campus volunteer hours
The volunteer registration requirement will extend to all volunteers serving
on or off-campus, during or after the instructional day effective January 4.
