Quarantine & Learning: UPE Procedures for 2021-22 School Year

Dear Parents,

With 18 months of Covid Quarantines under our belt, we’ve learned a lot about what constitutes reasonable and effective approaches to supporting student’s at-home and remote learning due to a Quarantine. The following details our philosophy and what you can expect for at-home and remote quarantine learning support for your family for the 2021-22 school year. Please take a moment to read through so you and your family know what to expect in terms of support during a quarantine. Thank you!

Mr. Briggs-Hale

A Word About Learning At Home During a Quarantine: We believe all students should have access to remote learning at a quality that is reasonable when they are forced by Health Policies to learn at-home by no choice of their own (quarantine). Our Core Values support taking reasonable and balanced steps to continue Relationships, Deep Learning, and Opportunities in ways to support students learning remotely.

We believe that remote learning is best when it doesn’t overtax the teacher, the students, or the parents. The outcomes of remote learning are likely to be higher if the teacher is able to maintain a time-balanced approach to planning, teaching, and assessing students.

We believe that teachers should have the power to apply their creativity to best meet the needs of their students who are quarantined.

What to Expect:

  1. The teacher will have 2 days after the announcement of quarantine to prepare at home learning materials that lead to the best chances of helping students meet or exceed standards-based expectations.

  2. The teacher will indicate what materials and processes above include (or don’t include) Canvas, Live Remote Learning Sessions, Pre-recorded lessons, interactive websites or independent learning projects.

  3. The teacher will communicate the learning plan with the families on the second full day after the quarantine begins.

  4. Teachers will schedule only the Remote Live sessions they feel are necessary (does not need to be every day).

  5. The classroom teacher will decide whether or not iPads are needed at home.

This also does not apply to vacations or voluntary quarantines.

Thank you for all the ways you support our teachers and children during this time of Covid!
