LJHS News
Week of January 8-12, 2018
January 2018 LJHS Transportation Change
Dear LJHS Parents and Guardians,
I have met with several individuals from our District’s main offices and we have been problem solving today on how to best serve our students and ensure their safety at drop-off and dismissal with the City’s construction project on Maple Street. The district anticipates that, while the Maple Street project is ongoing, City Line Road, which is perpendicular to Maple Street and runs along the other side of LJHS, will be very congested, and that the congestion will cause very long waits and a difficult situation while the Maple Street project is underway.
Though the contractor has created a temporary drive from Maple Street to the back drive of LJHS, it is uneven and difficult for cars to drive over. Due to this situation, we have made the decision to change the location for student bus drop-off and parent drop-off. We want you to know that our goal is to ensure safe, timely, and efficient student drop-offs and departures. Please note the traffic pattern changes at LJHS start tomorrow, January 9, 2018. Please review it in advance to to help make your students transportation plans as smooth as possible.
School buses will have exclusive use of the back drive behind LJHS. Parent vehicles will no longer drop off or pick up in the back of the campus. The buses will enter on City Line, and exit on Maple street. This will help get buses in and out safely and efficiently.
Parents dropping off or picking up students will now have exclusive use of the front two loops (off of City Line and Maple). Parent vehicles will no longer drop off or pick up in the back of the campus. Visitor parking is still accessible to parents during those times students need to be dropped off later or picked up earlier than usual due to circumstances like doctors appointments, etc.
Students who are walking or riding their bikes will enter through the cafeteria in the morning. If students arrive on campus before 8am they will walk to the 6th grade gym. They then will be dismissed to their grade level gyms at 8am. At dismissal, the walkers and bike riders will be dismissed through the cafeteria. Tomorrow, district staff will be located on the walking path before and after school. The district is working to get fencing in place as soon as possible to secure the walking path for students. This fence will create a barrier on the path between the students and the construction taking place.
We truly appreciate your patience during this time. We will get through this together, and we are looking forward to a great spring semester at LJHS and across the district. If you have any questions about the new traffic patterns, please contact the campus at 512-398-0770 for assistance.
