Back To School Bear Tracker

August 2021

A Message from Principal Freeborn:

Dear Battle Creek Families,

With the new school year rapidly approaching, I would like to take a moment to welcome you to the 2021-22 school year. I’m looking forward to having our students back for five full days each week and I’m excited for what this year will bring, which I’m hoping will include an increased sense of normalcy as the year goes on. We will be starting off the year wearing masks, but the governor has stated that the necessity of mask wearing will be re-evaluated each month. We realize the impact this pandemic has had on our community, affecting some more than others. and are committed to keeping our kids safe and healthy.

This year we will be welcoming around 450 students into Bear Country. Our arrival and dismissal procedures will remain much the same as last year, but our start and end times have changed (district-wide). School will now begin at 7:50 with doors opening for students at 7:35 and dismissal will now be at 2:20 each day. However, each Wednesday we will be having an hour late start so students will not need to arrive until 8:35 and classes will begin at 8:50. There will not be a change to dismissal times on these days.

Although our enrollment has decreased, it is still crucial that we maintain safety procedures so please make sure to follow the directions of staff during arrival and dismissal. With a little patience and grace we can ensure each child arrives to and from school safely, while also minimizing the amount of time parents must wait. More information around arrival and dismissal will be included in our Parent Handbook, as well as other important information we expect all our families to know.

Speaking of important information, there are a variety of ways that our families can receive information and keep up on what’s happening here at Battle Creek:

  • Bear Tracker (a monthly newsletter) will be sent out the first Monday or each month

  • Monday Folders (a weekly parent communication folder), contains important flyers and papers that will need to be read and/or signed

  • Auto-dialers will occasionally be sent out

  • Instead of the Remind App, this year we’ll be using Parent Square (district-wide) to send out reminders

  • Follow us on Facebook or Instagram

I’m looking forward to working together to make it a successful year for our kids!

P.S. Kinder Families, be on the lookout for our Kinder Orientation video coming soon!

Battle Creek Parent 2021-22 Handbook

It is critical that you take time to read our Parent Handbook to understand our procedures and expectations. A printed copy of this handbook will be sent home with your student as well.

Battle Creek Open House

Tuesday, Sep. 7th, 4-6pm

1640 Waln Drive Southeast

Salem, OR

This is a great opportunity for students to meet their teacher, see their classroom, and alleviate some Back to School anxiety they may be feeling. However, to decrease the number of people in our building, we are asking that. . .

  • students with last names A-L come between 4:00 & 5:00

  • students with last names M-Z come between 5:00 & 6:00

  • only parents/guardians attend with their students

Students in grades 1st - 5th can also bring their school supplies. To find out your child’s teacher, the day of Open House, you can check ParentVue or the class lists we’ll have posted on the windows to the right of the front doors. To protect your privacy, we will remove class lists at the end of Open House. If you do not see your child’s name it means they have not registered online for school and will need to do so prior to being placed in a class.
