Hawk Talk
December 14-18, 2020
A Message from the Principal
Hobby Family,
As San Antonio sees an increase in confirmed COVID cases, NISD continues to closely monitor the changing health metrics and to take proactive measures to better ensure student and staff safety.
I want to clarify the process we will follow at Hobby MIddle School if it is determined that your child has been in close contact with an individual who has tested positive for COVID-19:
If your child is determined to be in close contact, you will get a direct phone call from a member of the Hobby COVID response team.
The general letter sent out through Email is to notify everyone that a positive COVID case has been confirmed on the campus.
At this time, the District has paused the return of students seeking to change their learning model from virtual to in-person learning. Families who selected the in-person learning model for the third grading period will be notified the week of Jan. 4 by a campus administrator. Any student moving to in-person learning should continue in a virtual model until they receive notification.
As Always You Matter!
Praise, Promote, Protect.

Special Ed Information for Parents
Early Dismissal days for Planning
We are in the midst of a school year unlike any other. For Northside teachers, the challenges are especially demanding as you must balance the academic needs of both in-person and virtual learners.
Beginning in January 2021, six Teacher Planning Time/Student Early Dismissal Days have been added to this year’s school calendar. On these days, teachers at every level will have an additional three hours of planning time. The dates are Wednesdays on Jan. 13, Jan. 27, Feb. 24, March 24, April 28, and May 19.
Elementary schools will dismiss at 11:45 a.m., middle schools at 12:40 p.m., and high schools at 1 p.m. For additional details, click here.
Counselor's Corner
Coat/Jacket Drive
Our campus was selected as a collection site because of the geographic location. The support we are requesting is to donate a gently used coat/jacket. A Northside Counselors Association (NCA) box will be placed outside the front office. A NCA representative will be collecting the box on December 16th. Please place the coat/jacket in the box provided.
Virtual Learning Support Website
N-Genius- Help with Devices
Northside now has N-genius, a “Geek-Squad” located at the Kelly Smith Technology Center
to support student issues with the school issued technology. Therefore, Hobby will no longer swap out chromebooks. If a student’s Chromebook is damaged or malfunctions, contact the student hotline at (210) 397-0020 to schedule an Ngenius appointment. If needed, while the Chromebook is under repair, Hobby will issue a loaner Ipad so the student can access Schoology and be marked present in their classes.
Secondary Online Student Homework Support
Secondary Online Student Homework Support provided free of charge to all NISD students after hours and weekends. Our goal is to assist students with Schoology Support and in the academic content areas of Reading/ELA, Math, Science, Social Studies, and/or Spanish. A certified Teacher Tutor will provide assistance to your child via video conferencing, screen share, or chat.
The Online Student Homework Support hours are:
Monday - Thursday
4:00 PM - 8:00 PM (Elementary)
6:00 PM - 10:00 PM (Secondary)
Saturday 10:00 AM - 2:00 PM (All Levels)
Sunday 2:00 PM - 6:00 PM (All Levels)
Students will be able to access the link in HAC under the school links tab, and in the students NISD portal that signifies Student Homework Support.
