Francestown Elementary School

September 21, 2018

From the Principal's Desk

We are coming to the end of our second full week of school and students and staff are really settling into routines, building community, and starting to dive into the academic curriculum. We had a wonderful All School Meeting led by our fourth graders followed by a well-attended Community Lunch. It was so wonderful to have so many parents join us. This is a monthly vent that occurs on the third Friday of every month. We hope to see you on October 19th.

Over the past two weeks most of our classrooms have had visitors from our our community partners. There were visits from Jeannie, our Arts Integration Specialist, Cornucopia, as well as the Harris Center. There are some exciting events coming up in the next month. Please keep up to date with these by reading through this newsletter, following us on Facebook, Twitter, and of course our website.

Next week students in grades 1 - 4 will be taking the district NWEA computerized tests. These tests are given three times a year. Teachers use the data from these assessments to inform their instruction. If you have any questions about these assessments, please let me know.

Have a great weekend,

Kat

Things to Remember

Lion's Club Vision Screening

The free vision screening will be on Monday September 25th. If you haven't turned in your paperwork for that, please call Nurse Sherreé or send her an email: shodgson@conval.edu

Picture Day

Picture day will be on October 1. Packets have gone home, but you can still order online after pictures have been taken. If you have any questions, please call the office.

Francestown Community Supper

This year FES will sponsor the Francestown Community Supper on October 3rd. We will serve the meal at the Community Church beginning at 5:30. Each grade level has been assigned part of the meal:

Kindergarten: Bread

Grade 1/2: Crockpot

Grade 3: Crockpot

Grade 4: Dessert

Each class will prepare something for the dinner, and families are also asked to contribute if they can. Please contact Heather Simard 831-0888 if you have any questions.

FES Open House

Open house will be on Wednesday September 26th from 6 - 7. Come meet the staff and sign up for activities like PTO and skiclub. The police department will also be here to fingerprint parents who are interested in being designated volunteers for the school. There is no charge for the fingerprinting. If your fingerprints are already on file, you do not need to do this again.

Parent Night @ FES

On October 18th from 6 - 7:30 FES staff will lead parents in the first of three interactive parent evenings. The focus will be on informing parents about our social emotional curriculum at FES and how we teach behavior expectations. There will be plenty of practical information that families will be able to use at home as well. Child care and food will be provided for students and their siblings.
