NEHS Celebrates National Librarian Day
National Librarian Day on April 16 is a chance to be thankful for all the knowledge that librarians possess. You may think of them as book-slingers who spend all day cataloging and reshelving, but librarians play a much more important role.
Trained in Library Science, professional librarians work with complex cataloging systems to organize books, make purchasing decisions for their library, liaise with local schools and universities, organize events and programming, teach classes, and more. Their role is constantly evolving to adapt to new technology and social needs.
Celebrate National Librarian Day with us as we say thanks to our awesome librarian Ms. Emily Westfall!
Dear Parents and Students,
In celebration of Earth Day (Friday, April 22nd), we are getting ready to begin our 3rd Annual Plastic Bag drive. We will be collecting plastic grocery style bags from
April 15 until April 25. We are partnering with H-E-B Lake Colony to handle our recycling needs for us. Our goal is to collect as many bags as we can.
We will be having a grade level competition to see which grade can bring in the most plastic bags, and the winning grade level will get to have a PARTY complete with
snacks and drinks donated by H-E-B Lake Colony. We are asking a small favor from our families. We have to bag (by 10s) all the bags turned in to help us maintain
accurate counts for the individual classrooms and grade levels.
I am sure you can only imagine what kind of chaos that task could bring. So, if you would be so kind as to help your child count the bags out by 10s for us, placing nine bags inside the 10th one before you return them to school, we would be ever so grateful. This would save us a ton of work when we collect the bags from the classroom/grade levels.
So get to counting and send in those plastic bags and let’s show Mother Earth how Austin Parkway Recycles! (The bags can be from anywhere… H-E-B, Target, Walmart,
Walgreens, Macy’s, newspaper, cleaners, produce, water cases, etc). APE is going green!!
Thank you,
Ms. Curry

If they forget their lunch, they may receive a free meal from the cafeteria. If they forget their homework, the teacher will accept it the following day.
Dear APE Families,
Last Friday, Square1 Art Catalogs were sent home along with some stickers that were made from your student's artwork. Please take a moment to look through the catalog and see what wonderful products you can order through this company. This is a once a year fundraiser and proceeds from this goes towards purchasing more art supplies for our program. Take the opportunity to order future gifts for family members. My own children's grandparents started collecting mugs yearly with artwork from all their grandkids. Other items my family has enjoyed purchasing have been printed greeting cards and tote bags, which are very useful and a great way to share your child's artwork. Orders have to be place online this year by April 19. Thank you for your continued support of the fine arts at APE!
Best,
Mrs. Hooper
