Dear Parents / Carers,

Welcome back to school for the new school year and a special welcome to all of the new families joining us this term. What a week it has been! It has been an absolute joy to see the children settle so well into their new classes and to chat with them about their holidays and their hopes for this year in school.

The news last night about the death of the Queen has made a sad end to the week but we have spent time today talking to the children, answering their questions and celebrating a life well lived in the service of others. Undoubtedly, most of the questions were around what happens next so we have tried to reassure the children that life will go on and explain some of the practical things that will happen such as the funeral, the coronation and changes to things like coins, notes and stamps etc. Please let us know if your child is particularly upset for any reason.

Our parents' coffee morning was well attended this morning despite my late reminder (sorry!) and it was lovely to be able to talk to parents informally in school. We will be having these on the first Friday of each half term and they are meant so that parents can meet each other over a cup of tea or coffee with myself, other staff, governors and our vicar, Revd. Paulie present to answer any queries that may occur or just to have an informal chat. These are not intended to be subject focused sessions so you won't miss anything by not coming. Information sessions will always be run separately with plenty of notice given. The date of the next coffee morning is Friday 4th November and Mrs Slater and Mr Symes will also be attending.

Finally, a few notices:

  • We are in need of several pairs of used black school shoes that children have grown out of but are still in good condition. If you have any please drop into the school office. When your child grows out of their shoes, please consider donating them to school so that we can pass them on to families in need. Thank you.
  • Can I please remind you that children should not be wearing make up, nail varnish or hair colour for school. Ear rings should be studs only and children must be able to remove them themselves for PE. Please save these for the holidays! Also as we are coming into lice/ nit season, please remember to tie hair up to help us stop the spread. Thank you.
  • Another reminder, our school is a 'No Phone Zone'. This means that we respectfully ask you not to use your mobiles anywhere on our school premises including the paths and playgrounds. This is first to support us in safeguarding our pupils but also as we feel that children learn so much more when they are able to talk to you about their day. They are keen to tell you what they have been doing and the value of talk is huge in impacting their learning.

Have a lovely weekend,

Mrs Karen Williams
