WEEKLY STAFF BULLETIN
November 11-15
WEEKLY STAFF BULLETIN
Good morning,
Happy Veteran's Day. We will be having the Veteran's Day Assembly at 1:00. Normal schedule will be followed for 7th and 8th grade.
We have some teachers who are taking on the November Gratitude Challenge . If you are on their team make sure you take on some of the challenges as well to earn your part of the free team lunch! If your team hasn't started yet, it's not too late to begin and start posting. Read the guidelines below in the STAFF GRATITUDE CHALLENGE.
On Friday we will have some visitors here from Mayerson Academy to check out the progress of our TLC program. I will provide some new Character trait papers for students that may need to make a new one to put on their locker if theirs is currently torn. I may take some things down in the hallway and keep the items to show off. If you have any new students that haven't taken the VIA survey can you please find a time they can do so this week. Hopefully everyone took the second quarter survey ( Staff and students).
If anyone has any decks of cards or other card games such as UNO you can donate that would be wonderful. I would like to replace some for 7th/8th grade lunch and to provide some for 5/6th grade lunch. Thank you.
Have a great week!
Aim High and Dream Big!!
Trish

Week of 11-11 to 11-15 M,W,F- 2:15-2:30
Go over weekly agenda
Set goals for the week
Talk about weekend
Discuss ways they have used their strengths and what strengths they can work on
Gratitude, Bravery and/or Perseverance journal each day
11-12 (Tuesday)
Dealing with Frustration
Give each team a bag of cotton balls and a cup. Students will partner up and stand across from one another a small distance. One student will hold the cup the other the cotton balls. They will underhand toss the cotton balls in the cup. The goal is for students to catch all 10 of the items in the cup without dropping any.
Complete Activity Debrief (class discussion or however you’re comfortable)
On a scale of 1 to 10, with 1 being not at all challenging and 10 being extremely challenging, how challenging was this activity for you and your partner?
What challenges did you face during the activity?
What strategies did you use to overcome the challenges?
How did you talk to yourself and your partner to help you persevere toward the goal?
What goals are you persevering toward now?
How will the things we talked about and tried today help you to persevere in the face of challenges?
11-14 (Thursday)
As a class, go over the definition of Perseverance
Perseverance is continued effort, usually over a long period of time, in spite of any setbacks, discouragement, or defeats. People who demonstrate perseverance persist in reaching a goal, no matter how long it takes or how many failures they encounter.
Watch https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Qoh3YkxuwVo which is a video clip from Rudy.
Discussion questions after the video.
What obstacles stood in the way of Rudy?
Summarize the advice given to Rudy by Fortune, the janitor?
Activity: Reach for the Stars
Give each student a paper star. Have students write a dream or goal that they hope to achieve on their star and then decorate it. Tell the students that it takes perseverance to fulfill their dreams. Use the stars to decorate somewhere in the school.
