Autism History and Background
In the 1900's, autism is referred to a range of nuero-psycholgical conditions. The term is described as conditions in which a person is removed from social interactions, also known as isolated self. In the 1940's researchers in the United States began to use the term as a way to describe children with social or emotional problems. In the 1960-70's, researchers began to focus on medications for treatments such as LSD, electrical shock and behavioral change techniques. During the 1980-90's, the role of behavioral therapy and the use of controlled learning environments rose as the primary treatment of children with autism and any related conditions.
