SVT & STEM Academy Newsletter
February 2022
Katie's Message:
Happy February! With a new month we also welcome a new semester! Seniors are now in their last months of high school while our freshmen are no longer “new” to high school. It is time for a fresh start to a new chapter in the year and we are excited to see where this opportunity takes our students as we look forward to various competitions and events.
February is a month of recognition and celebration. Our first big recognition is our SVT Spokane Scholars for the Class of 2022! Our three students have exhibited strength in math, science, and social studies. We are proud to recognize Aidan Scott, Gabby Lee, and Nikko Brovick, respectively. The work these students have done over the last four years is commendable and we are excited to have each of them officially receive the honor of Spokane Scholar! We will have more student recognitions in the coming weeks.
We also want to take time to recognize our staff. Here in CVSD, we have our annual Meritorious Service Awards. These are an opportunity for us to identify staff and community members who make what we do possible. Without a doubt, EVERY staff member at SVT has gone above and beyond not only this year, but for the last several years. If you feel so inclined, please take some time to complete a nomination for a staff member that you believe has been exceptional this year (link later in the newsletter). Additionally, the week of February 7-11th is National School Counselor Week. Mrs. Dresback is one of the best school counselors that I have had the pleasure of working with. Please take time, or encourage your student, to sincerely thank her for all she does here at SVT.
We have a big and exciting change coming to SVT! Our Fire Science program is currently housed at Central Valley High School. We are thrilled to announce that Fire Science will be moving “home” to a new location in the Valley Chamber building right next to SVT! We cannot wait to have them nearby and a stronger part of our SVT community. This move should be taking place in the next couple of weeks and we cannot wait.
We all hope that February treats you well and we look forward to seeing what this half of the year brings.
Regards,
Katie Louie

CVSD Families:
What do you want to see in the next CVSD Superintendent?
Central Valley School District Superintendent Ben Small announced at the Monday, January 10, 2022 board meeting that he would retire from Central Valley School District on June 30, 2022 after 14 years of service. A nation-wide search for his successor has already begun. The School Board has chosen Northwest Leadership Associates to assist with the search for a new Superintendent.
We want to hear from you!
Please come and join the community in identifying district challenges and opportunities the next superintendent will address, as well as the characteristics needed to be our next leader!
Attend either community forum, hosted by Northwest Leadership Associates:
- Tuesday, February 1, 6pm at Central Valley High School Theater, 821 S Sullivan Rd
- Wednesday, February 2, 6pm at University High School Theater, 12420 E 32nd Ave
If you are unable attend the meeting, you can fill out a survey afterward at www.cvsd.org/SuperintendentSearch/
We value your input and look forward to your participation during this transition.
