WAVE Newsletter
September 2021
Principal's Note
It is our mission at WAVE to make the learning experience the best it can be for each individual student. We have been working hard over the summer to ensure that the 2021-22 school year will be a phenomenal one for all.
We believe the relationships we create with our students and families are at the heart of all learning, as this allows us to treat each student as an individual and learn each person's strengths and areas in which to grow.
A growth mindset is the key to success: everyone is capable of growth and learning! And, we look to embrace the Leader in Me tools to help all individuals reach their goals and achieve their personal best.
Let's get excited for 2021-22! We are happy you are part of the WAVE family of learners.

Course Drop Policy
A student has 21 days from the time a course begins to withdraw without penalty. If the withdrawal request comes within the first 21 days, the student will receive a withdrawal pass (WP) on the transcript and it will not affect the student’s GPA. After 21 days, the student will receive a withdrawal fail (WF) on the transcript, and it will be counted as part of the student's overall GPA.

Junior Students: PSAT/ NMSQT Exam
Attention Juniors
The Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT) will be administered on Wednesday, October 13, 2021. The purpose of the PSAT (practice SAT) is to give students an opportunity to experience taking a college readiness test and to identify students who might benefit from advanced coursework. By taking the PSAT in 11th grade, students have the opportunity to qualify for participation in the National Merit Scholarship Program. PSAT/NMSQT® scores are used as the initial screen of entrants to the National Merit Scholarship Program, which recognizes outstanding academic achievement by U.S. high school students. If you would like more information on this opportunity, please contact Teri Sether, WAVE School Counselor, at 715-261-0893 prior to September 14, 2021.

School Calendar
It is important that each student/ family create a school schedule that ensures a student will keep up with his/her pacing guide. Since students have access to their school curriculum 24/7, there is a great deal of flexibility in creating a schedule that works for the student and his/her family.
Unlike the Wausau School District calendar, WAVE will not take scheduled days off from learning. Student will have 24/7 access to their courses. It is up to the student and their family if time will be "flexed" offline. If a student takes a day off, that day must be made up. It is important to communicate any change in attendance (logging on and engaging online) with your teachers and school administrator.
The Course End Date for Fall Semester is January 7, 2021.
