Strategic Planning for the District’s Future (This is a long section, but important!)
The last time the district was involved in the strategic planning process was during the 2014-2015 school year when Dean Sanders was the superintendent. To me, 2015 seems like almost yesterday, but our world has definitely changed a lot in the past six years. As educators, we have learned several valuable lessons from the pandemic, mostly regarding what we are capable of when we are pushed out of our comfort zones. We figured out how to conquer obstacles in a very short time, and as I look back to where we were in August, the strength and resilience of this community and our LMASD staff was and is unparalleled.
The district is setting its sights on the future of education in our community via the strategic planning process this spring, and we need your input as a parent, community member, or business owner. It takes a collective effort to ensure ALL of our students are successful whether they are going straight into the workforce after high school or attending a two- or four-year college. It’s our job to make sure barriers are removed so that individual learning differences, ethnicity, or economic circumstances don’t define, constrain, or predict the success of our students.
The goal is to have 50 individuals participate in the strategic planning committee. Please contact Megan Larrabee if you are interested. One must be committed to all four days of the strategic planning process:
- April 16 (8-3:30 PM)
- April 17 (8-noon)
- May 14 (8-3:30 PM)
- May 15 (8-noon
We will be using the information obtained in the community climate survey as part of our strategic planning process. Thank you, thank you, thank you to all of you who took the time last November to complete the survey. Your feedback is extremely valuable for our planning purposes. Here are a few highlights from the survey results:
Programs & Services:
From the feedback of both parents and non-parents in the community, our recognizable strengths are in the core academic areas, the arts, and athletics, but there is a demonstrated need and desire from parents and community members to focus more work on the curriculum in our career and technical education classes as well as career planning for our students.
Life Skills:
Top 4 Planning Priorities identified in the survey:
Ensure the academic needs of all students are being met.
Ensure the social-emotional/mental health needs of all students are being met.
Help students with career planning/life after high school.
Ensure all students have access to up-to-date technology to support learning.
A close “number 5” was to recruit high-quality staff that is representative of our student population.
For more information regarding the results of the community climate survey, please see the attached summary.
Wearing Face Coverings
Just a reminder that the Board of Education has adopted the L-Cat Pandemic Plan which requires wearing face coverings in all district facilities. The district’s guidelines will remain in place until further notice, regardless of what is mandated or not mandated at the state level. We will be revisiting our pandemic plan after spring break once staff is vaccinated and as new data emerges. Stay vigilant until the end of the year, L-Cats! What we are doing is working!
