HAPPY EMMA M. NUTT DAY!
Emma M. Nutt Day celebrates the first female telephone operator in America. Emma started plugging in those telephone wire things on 01 SEP 1878, and loved making those little connections so much that she kept doing so for 33 YEARS. No word on whether she stopped to eat, sleep or doing anything else, though.
This special day celebrates the lost world of telephone operators. It was a very important job for many decades. It was so important that the position was eliminated in order to be replaced by automation in telephone systems.
A little side note about Emma: According to Emma, she was "very thankful that my first name was not Imma". Emma who was not Imma is pictured below.
