College Park Elementary Earns Distinguished by the GA Dept of Education!
The Georgia Department of Education has recognized 45 district schools for supporting a positive school climate through the implementation of the Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS) framework. Of those schools,16 FCS schools received the ‘Distinguished’ recognition for the 2021-2022 school year, highlighting a substantial increase over the nine schools designated when results last came out before the pandemic. College Park earned DISTINGUISHED!
In addition to the 16 Distinguished schools, the district has 28 Operational schools, which represents 48 percent of district schools implementing PBIS at the highest levels possible.
PBIS is an approach schools use to promote school safety and good behavior. With PBIS, schools teach kids about behavior expectations and strategies. PBIS is proven to reduce disciplinary incidents, increase a school’s sense of safety and support improved academic outcomes. In our school you can see and feel PBIS in many ways and we continue to learn and grow to maintain our status!

Folder Communication Keeps us in the Game!
Information is integral to allowing the school day, week, month run smoothly! Each week teachers send home papers in your child's folder and back pack, they send the newsletter in the Class Dojo and then we send reminders and schoolwide celebrations in the school newsletter. We need for parents to ensure they are up to date in all modes of communication, check back packs, check Class Dojo and reach out to your child's teachers for any questions!

How Can I Help?
Have you noticed the updated parent newsletter? There is a new section How Can I Help At Home? In this section, teachers are providing activities and resources on how to support your scholar at home to ensure success. Helping at home benefits families as well. Your interest in your children’s education can spark their enthusiasm and lead them to understand that learning can be rewarding and is well worth the effort.
NOT ALLOWED: Bringing Candy to School to share.
Did you know that students are to NOT bring snacks or candy to school? As we approach the upcoming holidays, it is important to remind parents and families that candy, desserts, baked goods (store-bought/homemade), or any other edible items are not to be sold or distributed at school or on the bus unless approved in advance by the school administration. More detailed policy information will be provided in this week's Thursday Folder.
