GOOD NEWS
WIDEFIELD SCHOOL DISTRICT 3 ~ October 11, 2018
Lunch Date
The Board of Education, superintendent Scott Campbell, and assistant superintendent Joe Garrett ate lunch with students at Discovery High School last week. The students showed board members school upgrades including new carpet, paint, lights, and classroom furniture, and also discussed the great things happening at DHS.
Meeting Goals
Widefield School District 3 is addressing an important goal outlined in our "Community Goals for WSD3" which was created this summer. Under Goal #4, "Safety, Health & Wellness," WSD3 will provide education, training, and support to create a safe and healthy learning environment.
We have partnered with Fountain-Fort Carson School District 8 and Fountain Communities That Care to put on a mental health and wellness event titled "Surviving School: Tools to Navigate Life Challenges." This event will feature four student-led breakout sessions in which attendees can choose three to attend. A resource room will be set up during the entire event for attendees to ask questions, seek advice, and collect helpful information. We hope staff, students, and parents will take advantage of this opportunity.

Marching Band Competition Results
- The Widefield High School Gladiator Marching Band competed on Saturday at the Legend Marching Festival and had a very successful day. The Gladiators placed third in the open class (which includes both 4A and 5A bands) and finished fifth overall! The band had an amazing performance at finals which moved them past two bands that they were trailing behind earlier in the day.
- The Pride of Mesa Ridge Marching Band competed at Pomona on Saturday. The band finished first in the 4A division, third place overall, and received the overall first place for high visuals.

NEXT WEEK ~ National School Lunch Week
We will be celebrating National School Lunch Week between October 15-19. The #NSLW18 theme is "School Lunch: Lots 2 Love," which was designed to help students and school nutrition professionals connect and share what each loves most about school lunch. Stay tuned for fun videos and photos next week of our very own nutrition services staff, and be sure to show some love!
