September 2018 Sunflower Patch
Headlines & Happenings at Sunflower Elementary
Attitude of Gratitude
We look forward to working with students and parents this year building positive relationships and helping students become the best that they can be, both academically and civically.
You can keep up with all of the great things we are doing at Sunflower via our Facebook page, Panther Alerts, and Infinite Campus! If you need help getting signed up for any of these, let us know and we can help!
Thanks All for a Great Start!
Giving the Basics
Giving the Basics (www.givingthebasics.org) is a free program available to USD #368 students that provides the necessities of life, not covered by government assistance programs, that most people take for granted such as laundry soap, shampoo, deodorant, toilet paper and other personal care hygiene products.
Giving the Basics distributes products to more than 65 pantry locations and 186 schools in 14+ school districts, including USD 368, making the basics accessible to 220,000 people monthly.
For more information or to receive assistance, please visit the “Parents & Students” section of the USD 368 website or contact USD 368 nursing staff or social workers at any building.

Girls on the Run Starting September 10
For the first time ever, our Girls on the Run team did not fill up on opening day. This means if your daughter would still like to participate, we have a spot! You may register at https://www.gotrkc.org/. If you are worried about the program fee, please see the information below:
What if a girl is unable to pay the program fee?
In response to parents’ requests for an optional payment plan, we have worked with our partners to offer three different payment plans. These options will be available at program registration checkout.
Additionally, it is the mission of Girls on the Run to offer our program to all girls who want to participate, regardless of her ability to pay. Any registered Girls on the Run or Heart & Sole participant is eligible for financial assistance, regardless of the program fee at her school. While assistance is awarded based on your family’s participation in the free and reduced lunch program, special circumstances that contribute to a request for financial assistance are certainly considered. Please know that we request all financial assistance recipients to pay a portion of the program fee, however nominal that may be, so there is buy-in and a sense of pride and ownership, which helps with attendance and engagement. To inquire about financial assistance please e-mail scholarship@gotrkc.org
