Book Review
“I gave you the best of me, he'd told her once, and with every beat of her son's heart, she knew he'd exactly done that.” Nicholas Sparks, the author of many great novels has once again outdone himself. Sparks’ novel, The Best of Me, is yet another intriguing novel which portrays how two people can still love one another even if they have not had any contact of each other. This novel shows how far love can go, and how not everything turns out to be how you expected, or hoped it would.
Twenty years have passed since lovers Amanda and Dawson have seen, or heard of each other. Recently, a mutual friend Tuck ,passes away, and they are both summoned by him back to Oriental to spread his ashes. As soon as they are both back in their hometown, Dawson’s hateful family wants to bring back the past and get rid of Dawson once and for all. Surprises lie all throughout this romance-filled book, which will keep you intrigued for more and more. Amanda and Dawson don’t expect to see each other, and when they do, the love once had for each other is once again felt. Looking back on their past is painful, but also inevitable, forcing the former lovers to face the fact that they still love one another. The Best of Me, contains events that anyone would enjoy reading, and plots that will indulge readers into this spectacular fantasy.
Sparks does an excellent job in describing the town and portraying its features. One is example is when Sparks makes it clear how the outside of his home is set up. Despite the fact that the novel is fiction, the main characters are somewhat believable. I know some people similar to them, including their attitudes, and characteristics. Sparks describes their personalities in third person omniscient, along with their physically dreamy features.
Sparks’ writing style is indulging. Sparks’ makes the reader feel like there is a connection between the reader and the characters in the books. The way he uses words is intriguing, and great, making the following events somewhat unpredictable. Nicholas Sparks achieves his purpose in creating an unexpected ending, shocking the readers. Sparks’ writing is powerful and beautiful, hooking the audience, while getting his point across. There are lessons learned, and he teaches us that sometimes the hardest things are the right things to do. Love finds its way, but sometimes things just aren’t meant to be.
“The Best of Me”, is moving, heart-wrenching, and simply must be read not just by teenagers, but also adults. All sorts of emotion is felt throughout this novel, leaving you wanting for even more. This book portrays that responsibilities come in, and not everything you hope for occurs, but despite the difficulties, life continues to go on.

“Life was messy. Always had been and always would be and that was just the way it was, so why bother complaining? You either did something about it or you didn’t, and then you lived with the choice you made.”
