Week of June 12, 2021!
Last Day of School, 2018!
Upcoming dates of note:

Last week message!
The message below will be going out to all Yake families on Sunday night with reminders about the last week of school.
We have half-days of school on Tuesday and Wednesday of this week. On Tuesday and Wednesday, our Gators will be dismissed at 12:10 p.m.
If your child has medication in the office, please be sure to come by the school to pick it up by the end of the day on Friday. Simply pull into a marked parking spot, call the office and we will run the medication out to you. Any medication not picked up by an adult will be discarded.
Also, please remind your Gator to double-check our lost and found. Any items not picked up by the end of the week will be bagged up and donated.
On Wednesday, all of your Gators will be sent home with report cards and ThinkStretch workbooks. We encourage Gators to complete pages from the book each week and complete at least 20 minutes of reading each day.
I hope that all of your Gators have a great last week of school and a wonderful summer break.

Mask Use Requirements
Please see the updated WBSD Mask Usage Requirements based upon the new State requirements.
How does this impact Yake?
The impacts on us pertain to recess, outdoor lessons/activities and outdoor field trips.
In working with our staff and in compliance with the guidelines, our Gators will continue to wear their masks to and from the cafeteria. After lunch, they will walk the students back to their classrooms and they will return their masks at their desks (if they choose to) before going out for recess. Students will wear the masks again when they return to their classrooms.
Summer Learning Opportunities!
I am very excited about the summer learning opportunities that will be available this summer. Please see picture #1 for information about the Woodhaven Parks & Recreation program. This link https://www.woodhavenmi.org/ will take you to the City of Woodhaven's website to register your Gator. Picture #2 includes information about additional opportunities including Thinkstretch complete with 5 summer meet-ups (dates and times coming soon), the library being open to check out books each week (we will coordinate the days and time with the Thinkstretch meet-ups) and more.
Please let me know if you have any questions or concerns. I hope to see many of our Gators at Yake for Parks & Rec this summer!
Prevent Summer Learning Loss!
Free Think Stretch workbooks and Parent Guides will be sent home with all Gators on Wednesday, June 16th.
Please assist your Gator in completing the workbooks to prevent summer learning loss and to help them earn medals during a Think Stretch ceremony that we will be holding in October.
*We have Pre-K to Kindergarten workbooks for all children enrolled in kindergarten for the fall. You are welcome to come by to pick up a book and you are welcome to bring your future Gator to join us for the summer playground sessions.

Kindergarten Skills Screening!
For families who have registered their kindergarten or young fives Gator for the fall, please click on the link below to schedule your Kindergarten Skills Screening. Kindergarten Skills Screening will take place between 9:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. on Wednesday, August 18th and Thursday, August 19th. Screening will take place in our cafeteria and the four screening tables will be spread out. Sessions will take under 20 minutes each.
These screening sessions are designed to give parents and teachers some initial baseline date to help with making decisions in regards to young five or kindergarten and to assist us in creating balanced kindergarten classrooms.
As a note, current young fives Gators who will be entering kindergarten in the fall do not need to sign up for a screening session.

Student Health Screen Every Morning!
In order to implement more stringent health screening protocols (as mandated by the Wayne County Health Department), we are now expecting that a parent completes the health screener, online, for their child(ren), each day that they are to be in attendance. This is the same process that all employees in the WBSD have been completing.
This is an important requirement for the district to continue our face to face instruction. This screener is similar to the one that we have been asking you to do daily since the beginning of the year. This screener is available on an online platform through a google form application.
The screener can be made available by using the QR code below.
Or by clicking this link: https://screener.wbsdweb.com/
Please note that if you answered yes to any of the questions in the screener you will need to keep your child home and follow the guidance provided by the Wayne County Health Department.
Your help in making sure our students and staff are healthy and safe every day is appreciated.
