Information About Netflix Show, 13 Reasons Why
In an effort to inform and partner with parents, we wanted to share some resources regarding the upcoming Netflix release of "13 Reasons Why," Season 2. Season 1 chronicled the death by suicide of a high school student who left behind 13 audiotapes for people she blamed for her action. Season 2 will be released today, May 18, picking up the story as the community tries to deal with the emotional and legal fallout from the suicide. The first series was very popular, and we want you to be prepared to assist your child in processing the show's content should they be watching it or ask questions. Actions to Consider: For more information on suicide prevention and about the resources available in Platte County, go to https://encouragehopeandhelp.com/ Suicide is NEVER the answer; getting help IS the answer. Prevention, Awareness, and Support is available at Suicide.org or the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline - 1-800-273-8225. In addition to using these tips to talk to your child, all Platte County R-3 schools have counselors and school social workers who are available to help your child. Please contact your school if you have concerns about your student and need additional resources.

Bullying and Safety Concerns
Safety is one of our district’s top priorities and to help safeguard our school community, our district is now using SafeSchools Alert, a tip reporting service that allows students, staff, and parents to submit safety concerns to our administration.
You and your child can easily report tips on bullying, harassment, or any safety issue you're concerned about through SafeSchools Alert.
Every tip SafeSchools Alert receives about our district is immediately logged in the system and our administration is notified so that they can investigate and take appropriate action. And, tips may also be submitted anonymously if you prefer.
Together, using SafeSchools Alert, we can make our district a safer place to learn!
