Professional Development Opportunity- Learning about Tourette Syndrome!
Wednesday, Jan. 26th 2022 at 7pm
This is an online event.
Mark your calendars!!! WEDNESDAY JANUARY 26th 7pm VIRTUAL EVENT
MIlton SEPAC and the Office of Pupil Personnel Services are co-sponsoring an parent and staff training seminar!
Sue Conners will be presenting on Tourette Syndrome
Tourette Syndrome is one of the most misunderstood neurological disorders that educational personnel will encounter. Many still believe that it is a very rare disorder. The latest studies from the CDC indicate that one in 120 children have TS or a tic disorder. This workshop will discuss the criteria for diagnosis of Tourette Syndrome and will include an in-depth description of all the symptomology.
TS is now commonly referred to as a “spectrum disorder”. The workshop will also deal with the most common neurological disorders associated with TS, in particular, Obsessive Compulsive Disorder, Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder, Learning Disabilities, Sensory Processing Disorder, Auditory Processing and Dysgraphia and the impact of all of these disorders on social emotional well-being, school performance and behavior.
As a retired teacher of 33 years, I will include specific strategies and techniques for working with children with TS and its associated disorders in a variety of settings. Since TS is often misunderstood as a behavior problem, it will also introduce participants to a Functional Behavioral Assessment designed for children with neurological disorders.
My goal is to change how we all look at kids with TS and all neurological disorders
