Defer Dragon's Burning News
October 4, 2020
From the Principal
Dear Defer Families,
We are getting ready for students to return in the hybrid learning at Defer! On Monday, you will receive your child's cohort placement from their classroom teacher. Most of the cohort placements were completed by the student's last name. Students with the last names A - K will be assigned to cohort A, and student last names L - Z will be assigned to cohort B. However, some classes did not break up evenly. To help create balanced classrooms we also looked at single student families or full families that could be adjusted to a different cohort while taking into consideration for learning partners, gender, and needs for services. While I know this is not a perfect system, I appreciate your kindness and patience as we continue to partner with families to provide the best learning environment for each student. More information will also be emailed to families on Wednesday with further Return to School Procedures for health, safety, arrival, dismissal, lunch, and recess. If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact me, rheauml@gpschools.org or 313-432-4004.
Thank you,
Dr. Rheaume

Defer PTO-Help Wanted!
Are you looking for ways to get involved with Defer for the 2020-2021 school year?
Even though school looks different this year, there are still many ways to get involved! The Defer PTO is looking for volunteers to chair various committees this year. Volunteers are also needed to help plan and organize details for each committee. This is a great way to meet other parents within the Defer community. Many of these opportunities allow for working parents to be involved. More information will be coming out soon regarding where help is needed and how to sign up!
Ways to Receive Information from PTO
Defer PTO loves to keep you informed not only about PTO happenings, but also with updates related to school, information from Dr. Rheaume and from the district. Here are 3 different ways to receive information from PTO (see flyer below). Please help us share and spread this information for new families. Digital sharing is especially important this year! Please pass this information along including the flyer! Thank you in advance!
