WOLFPACK HOWLER
VOLUME 21 ISSUE 3 - OCT 12, 2022
Tidbits, Updates, and Reminders
- This Friday is the end of first quarter and will be an early out for students.
- As a reminder, quarter grades are a progress report for students, not final grades.
We've recently has a few issues arise in our school that when talking about what happened, they were not aware of what potential consequences might be for their behavior. We shared the following information with students in Extension on Tuesday and wanted to also share with parents in case you also have questions. Please be aware of these consequences students as this presentation counted as your notification.
VANDALISM AT SCHOOL
The Boys Bathroom in the Math wing is currently CLOSED due to some extreme vandalism
Thank you to the students who have been reporting vandalism or inappropriate behavior in bathrooms, hallways, parking lots, we appreciate you so much!
As a reminder, damage, destruction, and vandalism may have both discipline consequences and require students to pay restitution for the damages. Law enforcement may also be contacted depending on the infraction.
PHYSICAL AGGRESSION AND FIGHTING
- Ex: Slapboxing, Horseplay, Headlocks, Play Fighting, Roughhousing, Wrestling, etc. These also include posturing or challenging behavior for physical aggression or mutual combat in the case of fighting.
- All of these are disruptive and not appropriate for school.
- Progressive Consequences for offenses, meaning that if the behavior is repeated,
AIDING AND ABETTING
What if I just watch and record it?
This is considered 'aiding and abetting' and is defined as instigating helping, supporting, facilitating, promoting, suggesting, counseling, inciting, encouraging, and/or assisting another person to commit, engage in, or accomplish a prohibited behavior.
The consequences will be consistent with what is imposed for the primary offense.
PROGRESSIVE DISCIPLINE
Every situation is different depending on Aggravating and Mitigating Circumstances, however, in general discipline is progressively more severe if the behavior is repeated.
For all of the specific definitions and guidelines for disciplinary action, please visit the Student Rights and Responsibility Handbook
WHAT ABOUT ALL THESE TARDIES?
What happens if I’m tardy to class?
I mean, It’s not a big deal to be a little late, Right?
On Monday, Oct 10 there were 206 Tardies @ 5 min per tardy that’s~1,030 min, or over 17 hrs of lost instructional time. That's a lot of missed class time!
Starting in Second Quarter, we will start regularly reviewing the number of Unexcused Tardies students have and assigning consequences for every 5 tardies they acquire. Here are some of the details about lunch detentions and next steps.
Detentions will be issued when the student has reached 5 unexcused tardies (TU) or absent tardies (AT) within a quarter. Students will be allowed to serve 3 detentions per quarter. If the student exceeds 15 tardies or 3 detentions in the quarter, they will be referred to their respective admin for further action.
- Students will have one week from the date of notification to serve detention. Failure to complete detention will result in an office referral.
- Lunch Detention will begin 10 minutes after the lunch bell rings on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday.
- Students are expected to arrive with all materials and lunch (if they so choose) in hand.
- Passes will not be given during detention for any reason. No electronics will be allowed and seats will be assigned.
- Students are expected to remain in detention until the lunch bell rings. Students who leave prior to being released will be referred to the office for administrative action.
