Next Week: We Want to See You
Thank you for working through this very challenging week together with us and with your student. There were so many successes and also some difficult challenges. We persevere and do our best. I thank you personally for all of your communication with me and your spirit of collaboration. I'd like to look back when we are through this period of time to find that we have strengthened the partnership between home and school. It's up to each of us. You've done an absolutely outstanding job so far!
Next Wednesday and Thursday we will need to distribute some learning materials to our students. Some of the learning materials that students will need had not been delivered to FCPS schools in time for our previous distribution. However, every cloud has a silver lining and we have found one here. This will give us an excuse to see you! All of our teachers and staff will be here to greet you and say hello as you drive through the pickup. Read on to see how this will be organized:
Day One:
Who: 3rd, 4th, and 5th Grade Students and Families
When: Wednesday, September 9th 4:00-6:00 pm
Where: We will have families drive through the front loop of the school.
What: Stay in vehicles and staff will bring your materials to your car. Be ready to say hi to your classroom teacher in real life! 3rd Graders will be getting GoMath materials, 4th Graders Go Math materials and science materials, and 5th Graders will pick up GoMath and science materials (fava beans folks)
Day Two:
Who: Pre-K, Kindergarten, 1st, and 2nd Grade Students and Families
When: Thursday, September 10th 4:00-6:00 pm
Where: We will have families drive through the front loop of the school.
What: Stay in vehicles and staff will bring your materials to your car. Be ready to say hi to your classroom teacher in real life! Pre-K and Kindergarten students don't need to pick up any supplies, but we really would love to just see you and say hi. We will have something special for our youngest students to welcome them to Whittier. 1st Grade Students will receive very important phonics instruction materials, and some math materials, and finally 2nd grade students will receive GoMath materials and important phonics materials to go with their HD word reading program.
Most of all, we want to have an opportunity to make a social connection. We will do it safely and will remain in vehicles, wear our masks, and maintain social distancing guidelines, but we are so looking forward to seeing you all. I can't wait for students to see their teachers in real life, and for many, for the first time.
Thanks for everything you are doing as Whittier families to support your students' learning. It's far from easy. Your positive and can-do attitude is contagious and our students are really benefiting from their adult role models.
Thank you and have a fantastic long weekend,
Lorcan OhEithir, Principal
