Ernest Rutherford

Ernest Rutherford was born on August 30, 1871 in Nelson, New Zealand. Rutherford attended college in New Zealand, and then at Cambridge as a research student. He discovered many things about the atomic theory, the most important being the nucleus of the atom. Rutherford's other discoveries include alpha and beta rays in uranium, Thoron (noble gas), and the atomic number. Rutherford won the Nobel Peace Prize in 1908, and was knighted in 1914. Rutherford died on October 19, 1937.
