PASI News
January 2020
FELIZ AÑO NUEVO!
2020 brings with it several opportunities to be a part of PASI. In the coming weeks and months there will be something for everyone who has made a resolution to increase their involvement with Spanish Immersion education. A few examples are below:
Intern Coordinator Position Open
Megan Konz's term as Intern Coordinator is coming to an end this year. This three year term is a volunteer position within PASI leadership and is not an elected role. We would love to fill the position as soon as possible so the new coordinator can receive an orientation by working with Megan through the entire process starting this spring.
The Intern Coordinator works with Amity Institute to arrange intern placement here in Sioux Falls. The coordinator is very involved with our interns by assisting with the adjustment to the city of Sioux Falls as well as their work in the schools. An ability to speak Spanish is helpful but not required.
If you are interested in learning more about this vital role please send us an email today!
Interested In Hosting An Intern?
It is time to start thinking about hosting our 2020-21 interns. This rewarding experience is life-changing for both the intern and the host family. Opportunities are available to host for the full year or a semester. PASI will hold host family informational sessions in the near future, but if you know you're interested now, feel free to fill out the host family application and begin the process of enriching your children's immersion education at home!
Open Board Positions
Beginning this spring, PASI will be ready to fill several open board positions. These elected positions are a great way to be involved with PASI. Open positions for 2020 will be as follows:
General Board Members
Each of the two available open board member positions is a two-year commitment, with a possibility of running again to serve up to two more two-year terms.
Vice President
The vice president/president/president emeritus position is a three-year commitment, with the elected person serving their first year as vice president, the next year as president, and the third year as president emeritus.
Board elections will be held in the spring. If you have questions about serving on the board please reach out via email.
GATHERINGS EVENTS CALENDAR NOW AVAILABLE
Keeping track of the dates of the Gatherings you and your kids signed up for just got easier. Check out the PASI website for a chronological list of all future Gatherings. Best of all, you can easily add events to your Google or iCal calendar.

And remember, we love to see all the fun everyone is having. Share photos from your Gatherings with us by emailing them to pasi.sf.sd@gmail.com.

Thinking About Your Fifth Grader's Middle School Career?
Why continue Spanish immersion after elementary school?
- Spanish language fluency is often a distinguishing factor in both college acceptance and the workplace.
- Fluent communication skills in two languages rather than just one has college and career benefits in an increasingly globalized world.
- In addition to developing a lifelong ability to communicate with more people, children may derive other benefits from early language instruction: improved overall school performance, superior problem-solving skills, greater divergent-thinking skills, improved listen-ing skills and a deeper perspective of the world and appreciation for and understanding of different cultures.
