RHS Counseling Department Introducing SEL to All Students...

What is SEL? An acronym for "Social Emotional Learning"-is a process for developing skills (often referred to as "soft" or "non-cognitive") that underpin academic success. Specifically, SEL focuses on the identification and management of one's emotions, goals, and mindsets.

Background Knowledge: SEL emerged in the mid-90s, the term "social and emotional learning" focused on positive youth development activities in schools. Some of the programs included violence prevention, sex education, drug prevention (Red Ribbon Week; RRW), civic education and others.

(MAWI Learning powered by ACT, 2020)

RHS will be conducting school-wide Social Emotional Lessons in the upcoming weeks.
