Responsibility in action
Our character trait this month is responsibility. Here are 10 tips to help your penguin become more responsible.
Set Clear Expectations: Clearly communicate your expectations regarding chores, schoolwork, and behavior. Children should know what is expected of them and the consequences of not meeting those expectations.
Lead by Example: Children learn a great deal from observing the adults around them. Demonstrate responsibility in your own actions, whether it's keeping commitments, taking care of household tasks, or managing your finances.
Assign Age-Appropriate Chores: Give children tasks that match their age and ability. This teaches them that everyone in the family has a role to play in maintaining the household.
Consistent Routine: Establish a regular routine for chores and homework. Consistency helps children understand the importance of time management and completing tasks.
Encourage Independence: Allow children to make age-appropriate decisions and face the consequences of those decisions. This teaches them accountability.
Praise and Reward: Acknowledge and praise responsible behavior. Offer rewards, privileges or verbal praise for consistently meeting their responsibilities.
Problem Solving: Encourage children to find solutions to their problems rather than always providing the answers. This fosters independence and decision-making skills.
Open Communication: Create an environment where children feel comfortable discussing their concerns, fears, or mistakes. Use these conversations as learning opportunities.
Allow Natural Consequences: Sometimes, allowing children to experience the natural consequences of their actions can be a powerful lesson. Of course, this should be within safe boundaries.
Celebrate Achievements: When your child demonstrates responsibility, celebrate their achievements. This positive reinforcement can motivate them to continue being responsible.
Remember that every child is different, and what works for one may not work for another. You should always take into consideration your child's personality and needs.
SSC Voting
As we move further away from COVID, our hope at PV is to bring more families and more community involvement back to campus. Parent participation in committees and leading clubs is one way to rebuild our village. Thank you to all of the parents who were interested in participating in our SSC. Please cast your vote for up to 2 candidates by Thursday, October 19 at 12:59 pm.
Halloween Parade
A tradition here at Park Village is the Halloween parade. Students may wear masks, and thanks to a very persuasive 5th grader, inflate individual costumes for the parade only. After the parade, masks will be put away in backpacks and all costumes will be deflated for the remainder of the day. The parade begins at 9:00am. Please be mindful that Halloween is on an in-person day for Connect Academy and their student drop off beginning at 9:00am. This could make for a crowded parking lot so please plan accordingly.
It’s Not Just About Free or Reduced-Price Meals
Although school meals are now free to all students under California’s new Universal Meals Program, the application for free and reduced-price meals is still very important. School funding depends in part on the number of students that qualify for free or reduced-price meals. With all students now eating for free, fewer families are completing the application and schools are at risk of losing funds. Household income information is confidential and applying online is quick and easy. Plus, students that qualify for free or reduced-price meals may also qualify for discounts on transportation, SAT and AP tests, home internet, and college application fees. Apply online at MySchoolApps.com, or pick up a paper application in the front office.
Construction on Park Village Road
Starting Monday October 16, construction will begin to repair the sink hole coverings that line Park Village Rd. directly in front of our school. Should the construction obstruct our drop off, we will immediately articulate an alternate plan. Thanks for your flexibility and patience as this project get underway.
