Freedom of Religion, Speech, Press, and Assembly
The firts amendment states that each individual has freedom of religion, speech, press, and assembly. It says "Congress shall make no law respecting an esablishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the government for a dedress of grievances."
People may choose which religion they want to have or if they prefer to have no religion, that is acceptable. Everybody has freedom of speech. They may speak what they want to, but with limits. For example, you may not scream"Fire!" in a movie theatre because it can harm other citizens. Everyone can have their own opinion on things but some opions may not be spoken. Press may go around anywhere and write what they want to write but with limits. Press cannot write slander because that can damage someones reputation.
The first amendment also states that you have freedom of assembly. People may hold meetings and hand out flyers advertising their beliefs. They included this amendment in history for people and the safety of their citizen.
In the case of Loewen v. Turnipseed, 488 F. Supp. 1138 (N.D. Miss. 1980), book cencorship was taken place. Book censorship is when a person or group of people steal something that someone else wrote and put their name on it. I think the censorship is the wrong thing to do because the person that was stealing gets credit for something that someone else did.
Protect your privacy
Amendment 4 states that each individual has freedom to protect their privacy. It says "The right of the people to be secure in their persons, houses, papers, and effects, against inreasonable searches and seizures, shall not be violated, and no Warrants shall issue, bu upon probable cause, supported by Oath or affirmation, and particulary describing the place to be searched, and the persons or things to be seized.
In my own words that means that the Government can not have unreasonable searches. They may have searches if something can cause any harm to any American citizens. They included this amendment in the Constitution because they try to protect the citizens of the United Sates of America.
In 2001 there was a case that the Supreme Court ruled stating that police officers are not allowed to have a seek-heating device without a sear warrant. I think that that is fair because officers should not be allowed to go into you rprivacy unless needed.
