The idea of Impressionism started in the 1860's. It officially began by Edouard Manet in 1874 in Paris with the group called the Anonymous Society of Painters, Sculptors, Printmakers, etc. it was created because some artists wanted to free themselves from the rules of painting at the time. The group got rejected, but the emporer had the people judge the works. The people came, but only for a laugh. The main concept was to break free from the rules, loosen brush strokes, and lighten color pallets to include the intense lighting and colors.

Edouard Manet was anIimpressionist artist who was born into a wealthy family. He bridged the gap in between realism and Impressionism. His radical paintings and subject matter influenced the work of other Impressionist artists. That is why he is known as the father of Impressionism.

Edgar Degas was a French Impressionist artist who was born on July 19, 1834. He was known for his paintings, sculptures, and drawings. His work influenced others about the shape of the fine art landscape.

Claude Monet was a French painter born on November 14, 1840. His famous paintings gave name to the Impressionism movement. He loved to work outdoors. His paintings influenced others because of his concern of capturing light and natural forms.

Sunrise, Claude Monet

Big image
The Sunrise by Claude Monet is oil on a canvas. This is my favorite painting because of the calm colors and the scene. It makes me feel very relaxing. The lines and brush strokes provide great detail. This is my favorite painting from the Impressionism art movement.
