PHS Upcoming Events
Week of October 21st, 2019
Dear PHS Families,
It is hard to believe that the first seven weeks of the school year have come and gone. With the change of seasons, our students have settled into their daily routines and are busy with academics, athletics, and a variety of extra-curricular activities. In just two weeks, the first quarter of the school year will be at an end. On November 13th, all PHS students will dismiss at 10:30 am for Parent-Teacher Conferences/Report Card Pick-up. Teachers will be available to conference with parents in the gymnasium from 12:00 pm to 2:00 pm and 5:30 pm to 7:00 pm. As the date nears, I will be sending home more information.
Online registration is now taking place for the winter sports season. The registration site can be accessed using the button below. You can also contact Mr. Wilson, our Athletic Director, at mwilson@potsdam.k12.ny.us with any questions.
There will be a pre-licensing course also known as “the 5-hour course,” on October 28th & 29th from 7:00 - 9:30 pm both nights. This is a DMV-designed classroom course that provides new drivers with information to help them drive safely. New drivers must complete this course (or a New York State approved Driver Education Course) before they can schedule their driving test for their driver’s license. To register, bring $40.00 and a valid driver’s permit to the main office by October 25th.
The Volunteer Transportation Center will be hosting their inaugural North Country Mac & Cheese Cook-off on Saturday, November 9th, at Clarkson’s Cheel Arena. They are currently looking for teams to participate. All entries need to be prepared in a DOH-approved kitchen before the event. If your organization doesn’t have access to one, they are contracting with Potsdam Central School, which will provide kitchen space the day before. Please use the button below for more information.
The following colleges will be visiting PHS:
- October 23rd at 8:00 am - Hartwick College
- October 23rd at 9:30 am - SUNY Plattsburgh
- October 28th at 10:00 am - Cazenovia College
- October 29th at 9:00 am - North Country Community College
- October 30th at 8:00 am - SUNY Geneseo
Please help support PHS! We can earn free school supplies and equipment through the Price Chopper “Tools for Schools” program. Please consider enrolling and linking your AdvantagEdge Card to PHS to help us earn points. If we enroll 20 new supporters by November 30th, we will receive 3,000 bonus points. You can enroll at www.pricechopper.com/tools-schools. Our school code is: 49833.
The Potsdam Booster Club has begun their annual Blue & Orange Discount Card sale. Cards cost $10 each and can be purchased from any fall sport athlete or from the main office at the high school. You can also contact Mr. Wilson (mwilson@potsdam.k12.ny.us) directly for purchases. Thank you for your support of the Potsdam Athletic Program.
Athletics are in full swing; you can keep up to date on Potsdam team practices and games using the Section X Calendar. You also have the option of subscribing to the calendar and getting regular reminders and updates.
Can't make it to the game? All Potsdam Modified, JV, and Varsity athletic contests scheduled for the turf field or the high school gym are available through live video stream or video on demand on the NFHS Network. A subscription is required to watch the live stream or the VOD can be viewed for free a short time after the conclusion of the contest. Please contact Mr. Wilson (mwilson@potsdam.k12.ny.us) in the Athletics Office with any questions.
The PHS Library is open Monday through Thursday each week from 2:15 to 4:00 pm for any students to get extra help on homework, to work on a group project, or just to take advantage of a quiet space.
