Newsletter week 10 Term 3

East Gore School October 1st 2021

Principal's Report

Tena Koutou, Talofa, Namaste, Hello and Greetings

We have made it to the end of the another term here at East Gore. I know I say this each time but they just seem to fly by.

It was another busy one with an unexpected return to alert level 4. I think everyone took this change in their stride and carried on with online learning well, before returning to the classroom for the last few weeks. The playground this term has been a hit for everyone and once we got past the "sick" feeling from the swings and lunar, even more fun was had. It was awesome to see the sharing of the swings, where students had a turn for 2 minutes and then the next person had their turn.

This week we started our Neighbourhood Play Systems consultation. You might have noticed we were on the front page of The Ensign. This new initiative is an exciting journey for the school and wider community. We are lucky to work with the team from Active Southland and Mark at Sport NZ. This week Rooms Rimu and Rata drew different play options between their house and school, and created their favourite play activity using playdough. Yesterday we looked a photos of different green spaces around East Gore and the students wrote what they liked, didn't like and what would make it better. It was great to listen to them with some very good points made. Next term we will be asking East Gore community members what their thoughts are ... so watch this space!

Enjoy your holidays, and recharge your batteries before we race into Term 4 on 18 October.

Kia pai to hararei (have a great holiday).

Camp Update

Don't forget to get those permission and health forms for camp back to the office as soon as possible.

All final payments for camp need to be in by Friday 22 October 2021.

School Notices

The onset of winter illness is starting to affect our students. Please keep students home if the are unwell and help slow the spread of these coughs and colds. We have also had a vomiting bug doing the rounds, remember that a student must be 48 hours clear of any vomiting or diarrhoea before returning to school.

Reporting an Absence

If a student is away from school for any reason we need to know. Please text, phone or use the school app to report an absence. We need a reason for absence please, this a legal Ministry of Education requirement so please don't be offended if we ask for this.

Cellphones at School

We are noticing a few students are bringing cellphones to school. They do not need them at school because we have numerous devices for the students to complete school work on. If your child needs to bring a cellphone because of an after school activity, they must hand it in at the office. At the end of the day they can collect it from Mrs Nicholson.

Lunches in School

Unfortunately the daily fruit we were enjoying last term is not been supplied this term, we would ask parents to please send morning tea and something for healthy snack each day - ie: piece of fruit/cheese/nuts/yogurt.

Koha Kai are suppling a lovely range of lunches that our students enjoying this term - mac cheese is a definite hit!

Staying in Touch

Please remember to update any changes in your contact details to the school office, its very important that we have you latest details in case of an emergency. Thank you.

Spare Clothes

We are running short of spare clothes at school. If you child has come home in school clothing could it please be returned asap. A spare set of clothes in the school bag is a good idea this time of year.

Mīharo Murihiki Polyfest 2021

The Mīharo Murihiki Polyfest will be holding an online polyfest this year. This will be online in November and we will share the link with you when it is live.

East Gore will be sending a recording of our performance to be shared online as well. Watch this space next term.

Play is the Way for Term 3

Some Play Is The Way language you could use at home:

“Are you doing the right thing or the wrong thing?”

“Are you making a strong decision or a weak decision?”

“Are you being the boss or your decisions, or are you asking me to be your boss?”

Senior Camp - Chocolate Fundraiser

We still have 8 cartons of chocolate to sell. Each box contains 30 bars @ $2 each.
